    SR5 owner here.

Get an SR5 with the options you want and then head over to the hood trading thread or have the dealer add one on for you. Your wallet will thank you when you have to pay your car note every month.

The additional funds you would have spend will go into the mod fund. If you don’t plan on modding, good luck with all that. You’ve already registered for TW

The Off Road has a more plush ride. Test drive one. IMO your choice should be between Off Road and SR5.

i've had an sr5 and now a trd offroad 3rd gen. To me, having the PTS is worth the price upgrade even if you don't like anything else or think anything else is worth it. that's one of the things you can't just add later.

I went with the SR5 DCSB 4x4. I commute from one side of DFW to the other and back daily. I drive to Austin and back monthly. I work in public health and disaster response so sometimes I have to get somewhere regardless of road and weather conditions. The SR5 gives me that ability while still being a very comfortable ride. And I’m getting almost double the mileage I was in my Wrangler and the ride is totally different. I’m very happy with the SR5.

Sounds like an SR5 fits your bill. However if you find a good enough deal on a Sport you’d prob get better resale down the road. You can simply swap the stiff shocks for other ones.

I'm a little late to the party and most of what i will say has been said...but:
I too don't care much about the crawling etc. I'm mostly a commuter/weekend hauler.

I had the same decision to make when buying. I went in looking for a 4x4 MT taco and
let myself be swayed to an AT. There seemed to be no reason (for me) to go up to the Sport
other than MT and head unit.

Now that I have the truck for a while I think it was a mistake. What I would save getting the MT almost makes up for the difference in SR5 / Sport AT price difference.
And the connected navigation is garbage. But i hear the premium is not that great either...but it is somewhat useful (connected is not).

To fix my mistake I got a nice Garmin and mounted it. Much better solution for nav than the premium would be (so i hear).
And when i get the TSB for the AT I think i will be happier with it but it will still not be an MT.

For me, it was a learning expedience and I think I am making the best of my decision. If i had to do it all over again I would go with the Sport MT.
If you don't want an MT, i'd go SR5 and get a Garmin (if the premium nav does not satisfy you).

Sr5 nav and sport/off road nav is pretty much the same. Both useless

I went with the SR5 and the package that included the upgraded head unit/nav, and different wheels. I have no regrets 2 1/2 years later.

Look at your budget and what you can afford. Everyone has their opinion about a specific model.
Test drive, think about it, assess your needs and make a decision. TW is full of information and ideas
At the end of the day, you need to be happy with it , and YOU are the one paying for it.

I will preface my $.02 by saying I do own a sport and might be slightly biased. One thing I haven’t seen addressed yet and might just be a regional thing but I know where I am the TRD’s have a higher resale value, more so than just the upcharge of the package. They actually hold value better than a comparable SR5. Of course being in Mississippi the rednecks love to see the words Off-Road, but the Sports are pretty equally praised in this region. If you’re worried about resale down the road and have the extra coin to get the sport, that may be one extra reason to learn toward it. I own a second gen and have 0% of Sport suspension remaining on my truck so I cannot atest to that but I personally love all of the color matching that the package includes. In the end do what makes the most sense financially, but that doesn’t just mean on sticker price. Will you end up modifying either the SR5 or the Sport because there is something about it you do not like? Are the aesthetics of the Sport something you like so much that you would want to carry them over to the SR5 or is the ride of the Sport so unpleasant to you that you would have to replace it. All things to consider. Just my $.02 but I hope it helps in some way.

    Nothing yet...
I went from an SR5 for 10 months to a sport (now for about 10 months)... I like the handling of the sport. I felt with the SR5 that I was going to lose control around some turns (scared me). I also upgrading in features when trading too... but SR5 vs Sport with same features, I would get the SR5, but I would recommend getting a good used one for even more $$$ off. I'll never buy new again (the SR5 was new).

I would suggest that you get an extended or overnight test drive of the trucks you are interested in. I never drove the SR5 so I can't comment on it however I did not like the on road characteristics of the Sport as it was too jittery and harsh.

Might be region locked but as soon as I selected MT, it forces you into the Off-Road or Pro.

That said, Canada does get the MT access cab OR so that's still an improvement.

If you are going to keep them stock then I would say SR5. Actually, I’d say SR5 or Off-road ha Sport just doesn’t do it for me. I don’t like the fake hood scoop and the upgraded head unit still does not have Apple CarPlay or android auto. In my area the SR5 and off-road are way more popular than the sport as well. Best bang for your buck would probably be the off-road in my opinion. But that’s just my opinion.

Sport has a lot more upgrades than just the hood scoop (awesome and everyone is just jealous of it).

    Wireless charger
Upgraded nav (sure it's not a tomtom but mine works just fine)
    Push to start
    Upgraded rims
    Upgraded suspension
Upgraded interior materials (door panel etc)
    Power outlet in bed
Tie down points and rack rail in bed
    Probably more I'm forgetting...

It's a lot of add-ons that would otherwise cost more than 2-3k to option match an SR5 model. I think it's worth it imo.
