Small world, I met your buddy for the first time a couple months ago. He pressed out then in some rear axle bearings on my first gen 4Runner. Buddy definitely has some sweet trucks, if memory serves me right, that double-cab-access-cab has a VW Diesel in it. I may just hire him to do a VW Diesel swap in a couple years, we'll see how fuel prices trend and what ACTUAL L/100km I can squeeze out of my 4Runner.

Hello fellow Canadians, my name is Tom, been a long time lurker, first time poster in the Canada sub-section, and TW in general. Previously a member on SONTT (till it closed up), now a member on TNORTT as well.

I would defer to @Norilsk since he has more experience with trannies than us in his travels.

Welcome Tom. Yea that's Shane, known him for 30 years almost. I met him right when I bought my first Yota, 1985 4Runner.

That trail limo does not have the diesel in it. But he does indeed do the diesel swaps. Right in front of the convertible Tacoma in my pics is an 83 pickup with a diesel. He is currently swapping one into a early 90s Land Cuiser. The engine is half the size of the transmission.

SONTT you say, with a 4Runner...one of the head guys from SONTT, from Scarborough by the name of George if I recall correctly, had a 1st Gen Runner (Big Runner was the trucks name I think)...that's my old 85 4Runner lol.

Do you wish you still had your old set up? Bed with cap etc.
Now you’ve lived with it for awhile, what is better. All aspects, trail with cap vs flatbed. Everyday driving.

Money aside, would you do it again? Worth it?

Yup, Shane at ToyWerks, that's it.

This world may just get a little smaller. The BigRunner (if same truck) was bought by Mike out of Scarborough (2008ish) was bought by Steve out of Newcastle (2013ish) whom I bought it from in April 2017. I sold it in July to a fellow named Nick in Peterborough. Just didn't get to use it enough to justify keeping it. The replacement truck (red) will be much more streetable, ready for weekend back road tours to the beach, and some camping trips.
