I lost too many cats to the road in front of my house growing up. :(

We have the advantage of living on a dead end in the country. And he's smart, too; I've actually been sitting on the porch and seen him look both ways before he crosses.

That’s a pretty smart kitty. How about predators?
Living in the city my cats never go outside because of the potential traffic (I live in a pretty quiet neighborhood but there is always the risk of traffic) and the coyotes that have made it into the neighborhood.

No problems with Coyotes, and when the foxes come to visit they've gone after my chickens first, which is its own separate group problems. I've had indoor-outdoor cats my entire life, have always lived in the country, and have only ever had one cat 'disappear' on us (likely due to a predator).

Thanks, it was a stray wild cat my wife tamed down after I told her to leave it alone and it would move on. It likes to sleep on my head also

Not sure what your cats are getting into, but I have only ever had to bathe our cats when they got really old and their self-grooming suffered. We had two that made it into their 20's and their tails got funky. They stop cleaning them, the oils build up, the dirt sticks, and the fur gets matted. We would shampoo them out and then keep up with it using a brush as much as possible. The younger ones - indoor and out - have always taken care of themselves just fine, although we do brush them a lot to prevent fur balls and that likely helps. No stink was ever noticed, and we have had many cats over the years.

My cat Belle peering down from her warm, happy place atop the kitchen cabinets. She'll sit up there for hours just as happy as can be.

Ollie chillin out on the lap...

Found a good spot for petting...

And the second Harry runs around he’s instantly distracted. Ollie is the most skittish cat I’ve ever had. He jumps at anything.

So does the doorbell mean pure entertainment at your house too? Mines scared of everything. Doorbell rings, she'll run over anybody in between her and her safe place under my bed!

Henry is doing quite a bit better. The vet said it could take a week or more for him to bounce back from his episode, and apparently she was right. He's pretty much his old self again, although he does take more naps that he used to, and medication time wears him out - us too. As long as he's happy and comfortable we're good, and he seems to be both at the moment. He's spending the morning in one of his favorite spots watching the chipmunks on a rainy day.

It was more of a sarcastic comment (not rude intended) but my lex is 15, NEVER been bathed and his coat and skin are in perfect health. I honestly think it has to do with what kind of food they are given. Just like humans and skin issues, poor diets will affect your skin and hair health. My cats only get the best food available plus fresh avocado, salmon, RO water, etc. I think poor hair health and signs of dandruff are good signs of bad food.

I dont know I guess they are like people in that respect. Some people no matter how many times they shower they look like they are greasy/stinky.

For instance we had a white male cat and he would literally have a yellow tint if he didnt get a bath about once a month...like he rolled around in his own piss. The indoor cat we have now smells like she rolls around in the litter box. Yet the outside cat that was a stray and got dumped off at out here by our house rolls around in dirt and looks/smells clean.

My cats eat all holistic food, never go outside, drink bottled water, and still get a bath every few months. They all have long hair and for me it’s just a matter of getting the everyday dust (I use wheat litter and it has a bit more dust) off them, it makes for easier combing, and I like the way they smell afterwards. The biggest reason however is because I am allergic and it helps keep my allergies at bay. The few days after bath time is brutal for me (my wife and I bathe and dry them, they don’t go to a groomer) but there is no way I am getting rid of my cats.
I do agree with you about the food, which is why, like you, I try to feed them the best available.
    :fistbump:

Makes sense! Every situation and cat is different. Main thing is we love and nurture them as we do :woot:
