That video is never not hilarious, but her voice always makes me wanna put a gun in my mouth.

Don't fear bears. They are actually cuddly and misunderstood. Just look how friendly the Coca Cola bear is!

Maybe the bear destroyed the kayak in retaliation for the pepper spray? And yes, her voice was highly annoying....

Ha! That video is somewhat similar to when a cinnamon bear charged me and a buddy, neither man nor beast was injured. And I had a 4" barrel S&W .357 that I pulled, aimed but didn't fire. If you can actually call what I do with that .357 "aiming". I'm not very accurate with a stationary target over say 20 yards and this bear was moving FAST.

Fishing a Colorado lake at about 9k ft, hike-in lake, taking a break from fishing, steep terrain on the lake sides, a few other groups fishing the other side of the lake, a guy on a float tube alerted us, yelled "There's a bear up there!" pointing uphill. Cinnamon bear was sitting like a dog, on its haunches behind a down tree uphill maybe 50 yds away, staring at us.

I clap my hands and yell "Get outta here! Go on, get outta here!" Bear DOES start to run away uphill, but then does a U-turn around the rootball of the tree. Lost sight of it for a moment behind the rootball.

When it appeared again the hair on its back was standing up from skull to tail and it was FLYING downhill, front legs between back, never took its eyes off of us. The .357 was on my hip, yanked it out smoothly but by that time bear was about 30 yds away and it wasn't loping, it was front legs between back.

Ray yells, "Don't shoot!! Don't shoot!!", which he later explained by telling me what we both knew, I couldn't hit that bugger at that distance, probably would have been wasted shots. It was funny though, Ray was stepping lively behind me as he was yelling, said later he was getting ready to jump in the lake.

I was sitting with my butt against a huge boulder by the shore, feet on the ground, I was thinking I may as well stay there and hope something good happens. It did, bear puts all four brakes on about 15 yds away, stops itself in about a yard or so. Amazing strength, speed, agility.

It was a steep slope, bear was flying and it came to a complete stop in about a yard. Stares at us as it ambles away perpendicular to us, hair still standing up on its back, I kept the pistol pointed at it as it ambled, then it turned its head forward, hair relaxed on its back, it moved on to other endeavours.

Moral of the story? I don't have one. I don't know if I could have stopped the bear with the .357, don't know if bear spray would have stopped it, don't know if jumping in the lake with boots on wearing a fishing vest would have saved us or drowned us.

Since then I carry a dog, at least they give more warning than some guy in a float tube. Pistols, I've been thinking a .45 auto as the last line of defense.

That .357 might have tickled it. At least in the amount of time it would take to kill you, it wouldn't have stopped that bear.
