Never had that...I too have been bitten by the new shiny bauble on the shelf a few times. Redemption Bourbon for one. There was another "blended" bourbon that caught me unawares. But my most egregious purchase was this bottle of Amrut Single Cask Whisky. It was beside the bourbon, and in a box! so naturally you can sense my excitement. IN A BOX!!! It was priced at north of 90 bux. Fvker must be good, amirite?

Ya, skimmed right past the "single cask" to see what the deal is with THAT. I scan down to the fine print...it even lists "bourbon barrel 3357" ...

Sidebar: Ever hear about those stories, when after a tragic building fire they would find victims dead right at the exit door of the building...but the door wasn't locked yet they couldn't get out. They were pushing the door to open instead of pulling...because they got distracted.

Right then and there, I'm thinking to my self "self, you can literally trace the lineage of this bad assed boxed (yes...boxed) bourbon..." yes...I said bourbon, to myself. I'm "pushing at the exit door"

At precisely that moment in time my wife...who while is supremely awesome yet has a mischievous tendency to play the little devil on my left shoulder at times, but not at this time, says "If you want it, I'll buy it for you"...allllrrriiighhty then! Now she's "pushing me who's pushing at the exit door".

The fire in my case was in my hands...I got distracted by the shiny new bauble and was afforded minimal risk, so off I head home with visions of some awesome kind of existential gases emanating from the bottle when I uncork it. Longest 8 min drive home I've ever had.

I was contemplating videoing the box opening unveil for my YouTube channel, shit was gonna go viral...but I couldn't wait the time to whip out the phone...I had to try this Kentucky nector whose barrel I could trace and likely draw DNA samples of the poor sod who probably had his hand bloodied while he was manhandling (personhandling?) it thru the rickhouse.

It poured real nice, beautiful amber colour (Canadian eh :canada:) brought it to my lips...

Have I mentioned yet how much I fvcking HATE scotch?

    IMG_0034.jpg

Took this picture moments ago...it has 1 oz out of it. The acquisition was over 5 yrs ago. I keep it there, as a lesson to meself...

Self, read the handle on the door prior to operation, fvckhead!

I just couldn't open and try that Clyde Mays. I've already got several bottles I don't like open (those are served to acquaintances) so I took Clyde back and got this instead. Not sure if I'll like it but at least it doesn't have apples added to it.

I saw that one somewhere and really wanted it but there was some reason I passed it up, i feel like it was a little on the pricey side for a rye, $65 maybe or something?

I’ve said it before on here, but high west whiskey’s are all pretty good. Little pricey, but definitely good, in my opinion of course.

It was low 50's. Less than the Clyde. I hope it's good. Read some reviews when I got home and, dammit, there are some that say it has dill (pickle) as one of the flavors you can taste. I hate that flavor profile in bourbon/whskey, which is why I have bottles of Lot 44 and Willets Pot Still opened but will not drink. Fingers crossed...

You ever have a moment when the wife ask you if you have any Bourbon. Because she just found a recipe on Pinterest that calls for it. And low and behold your curiosity is peaked.

They don't make it anymore since they got bought out by diagio. Too cost prohibitive. It was a damn fine whiskey and it's like will probably never been seen again :(.

The distillery is still producing, and good products at that. But the Laddie 22 is gone. It was an older and more complex version of the younger Laddie 10 or 8 and classic laddie (which has no age statement). That's what's sad. Diageo values the profit more than the quality. So the older whiskey's are gone from their line and are no longer being produced. :(

Kirkland is solid. I wonder what they use for their whiskey brand. I heard they use grey goose for their vodka...

I decided I have too many bottles open so I've been working on finishing them before opening any new ones. Polished off the last of the Glenmorangie Lasanta, Glenlivet 18 and Hibiki over the last few weeks.

I have a bottle of Willett Pot Still I didn't like when I opened it, it had a dill taste that was just not right. It's been open for months, I figured it's had a chance to "aerate" and maybe change, so I figured I'd finish it as well. Nasty stuff. It lost it's dill flavor but now it's got a prominent ethyl alcohol smell and taste. It's going to the back row and will be used when guest want to put sugar in it to make some kind of cocktail.

I figured I'd suffered through a few nights trying to empty that bottle, so to make up for it I decided to open a bottle I got for my birthday a few months ago; Oban 14. Wow, this is some very good Scotch! Really very good.
