I have 6-tons. When I did my 4x4 swap, I had a pair 3-tons holding the rear axle, a pair of 6-tons holding the center of the frame, and another pair of 3-tons holding the front crashbar.

That truck was not going to fall on me.

Not sure about how easy Icons are but with my Kings you can't turn the collar completely because the UCA is in the way, even at full droop. Had to unbolt the bottom to pull the shock body away from the UCA so I could turn the collar all the way.

Should I adjust the coilover height before I install them? I don't know a single thing about adjusting them. I have the wrench, however.

You can but until you see them on the truck you won't know for sure what kind of lift you're getting, or if it will be even side to side (since Taco lean is different for everyone). Better to just do it on the truck IMO

    Got it.

Any tips for the front suspension? Where should I start?

You're not doing UCAs are you? Front is super easy and won't take long. Just unbolt the old coilovers and bolt the new ones in.

That's the one thing I didn't do on my own with my suspension, had those installed way back when I had my 5100s put on when I first got my truck. Someone else will have to chime in on those.

Yep, that's pretty much the way to do it...

it's really not that hard. As long as you have the proper spanner tool, it's super easy. I was using the stupid punch like tool I got with my Kings, and couldn't really do it on the truck, so I had to make another tool to bolt the shocks to so I could hold them in place while turning the top spring clamp. THAT is a pita, and I won't do that again, but a proper spanner and all you do is loosen the clamp and turn (should jack it up to take the weight off the shock, though).

I think I need a new cotter pin for the crown nut. I replaced it when I did the upper ball joints on my new manual hub steering knuckles.

those have a plug for the upper balljoint part, right?

Put the plugs in the freezer, then go rent a proper ball joint tool, the type that looks like a giant C-clamp. Will make your lift so much easier.

That's a good point, the UCA might be a bit in the way. With my TC UCAs you can just unbolt the upper, though.

yeah that was the one thing I think really made it a pain in the ass to adjust them on the truck with the UCA in the way...I had that straight punch tool that came with them. Almost ordered the proper spanner wrench but my buddy showed me how to do it by removing the lower bolt and it worked.

So there is a guy local to me who has 3rd gen 4Runner limited wheels - has 265-75s on them right now (BFG KO2s) about 10k remaining

Doesn't matter since I'll end up ordering new tires but I really want to give those wheels a chance. About 1/8" difference in BS. Center pieces are scuffed up but I figure just paint the wheels and leave the centers off completely or go with an aftermarket center.

Do I really need them? No. Can I afford them - yeah, I guess. He wants 250 for them and wants to meet at americas tires to do the hand off since he's his new wheels and tires just came in today. Only hold for me would be I still have a ton of tread left on my Revo 2s and was figuring I'd hold off for a few more months. Sure that extra wheel well space is annoying but I can live with it for now.

What you think? He wants to meet up and do the trade today?

or sit with my stock SR5 wheels

    God fucking dammit.

It took me THREE GODDAMN DAYS when I did my 4WD swap to change those fucking upper ball joints. I thought I never had to touch them again.

Luckily I bought a nice ball joint press tool when I did it.

I remember the dude that installed mine was fighting with it for a long time until I told him that he didn't need to save my stock upper BJ's because the SPC's came with their own, then he got them off quick lol.
