Scangauge II vs Garmin ecoRoute HD

I am looking at either Scangauge II or Garmin Ecoroute HD. I need another GPS so the added cost of that isn't a factor, I am looking at the Garmin 1390 which works fine w/the ecoRoute HD.

I know most, if not all, of y'all are partial to the SGII. It has cool gauge possibilities: Maximum Speed, Average Speed, Maximum Coolant Temperature, Maximum RPM, Driving Time, Driving Distance, Fuel Used, Fuel Cost, Trip Fuel Economy, Distance to Empty, Time to Empty, Fuel to Empty and add ons like: Horsepower, Fuel Consumption Rate, Vehicle speed (MPH), Fuel Economy, Cost Per Mile/Cost Per Trip, Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles), Battery Voltage, Engine Load, Coolant Temperature, Throttle Position, Intake Air Temperature, Ignition Timing, Engine Speed (RPM), O2 Sensor Data, Fuel Trim. Can the 1G get all of these readout from the SGII? My code reader advertised all kinds of cool readings available that the 1Gs can't produce. (My wife's '08 Civic can though!) Also, from what I have read you need to program the unit each time you refuel. Is this correct?

The Garmin ecoRoute HD (http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-ecoRou..._1?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1275931673&sr=8-1) looks cool. The interface is easy to read and has most of what I want/need. (The other gauges in the SGII would definitely be nice to have though!) Price is the same as the SGII. I wonder if it won't produce some of the advertised features though.

What are y'alls thoughts? Does the SGII produce all the advertised gauges on the 1G? How difficult / annoying is programming the unit after refueling or changing vehicles? What do y'all think of the Garmin add on? Thanks!

 

No one's input? How about a report of what SGII gauges aren't accessible on the 1G trucks? Anyone?

 

just a thought, or observation rather....the GPS isn't dependant upon your tire size and any other factor that can skew your actual numbers. The SGII is only as good as the input it receives from your trucks computer. Honestly, not sure what you're going to be using the Garmin Ecoroute HD for.
Take your wife to dinner with the money you would spend on either and call it a day.

 

I'm not really worried about the speedo read out. I'll have a GPS and my speedo. I'm really interested in: Maximum Coolant Temperature, Maximum RPM, Driving Time, Driving Distance, Fuel Used, Fuel Cost, Trip Fuel Economy, Distance to Empty, Time to Empty, Fuel to Empty and add ons like: Horsepower, Fuel Consumption Rate, Fuel Economy, Cost Per Mile/Cost Per Trip, Manifold Pressure (not available on some vehicles), Battery Voltage, Engine Load, Coolant Temperature, Throttle Position, Intake Air Temperature, Ignition Timing, Engine Speed (RPM), O2 Sensor Data, Fuel Trim.

 

I've only had my scangauge a few weeks, so I haven't discovered all its possibilities yet. I have it currently set for the number of miles until empty, the average mpg's, the current real time mpgs, and the amount of fuel I've used since my last refill. It's helped me figure out where the fuel needle is in relation to the actual fuel in the tank, and I really like the miles till empty setting. I'd be interested to find out if it will show horsepower though, I don't remember seeing anything about that.

 

There are a few things in the that list that the scangauge will not show. Off the top of my head, the MAP isn't working for us. I dont believe it stores a maximum value for rpm either, but that might be hidden away in one of the "tank" settings. I could never get the o2 sensor data to display either. The rest should be available if memory serves correct.

As far as programming each time you refuel, you have to do the following when you refuel: press the menu button a few times, choose refuel, enter the amount of gas, enter the cost of gas. Nothing complicated at all.

 

on the 2nd gen it wont tell you HP, fuel trim (not sure) and O2 sensor data.

Its handy to know what your real time MPG are if your trying to maximize what your getting per tank. and I now that I get more miles out of a tank than what my ODO reads, since I have bigger tires. I think its like a 6% difference.

I am still on the fence. The Garmin GPS add-on looks pretty cool but I am not sure how many features it really has the SGII seems to have more features but the GUI isn't as nice. I think I might be leaning towards the SGII the more I type/think about it though. Too bad I missed the group buy!
