I don't like the high RPMs at 75

AT was bone stock at that time. I may have been off by a couple hundred RPMS too, it was awhile ago when we did the comparison. Its a huge difference regardless.

he did just put on 33s and im trying to convince him to re-gear to 4.88 now :D

To you third genners: Toyota still doesn't have a longbed double cab Mt option correct? Once you go longbed in the quad cab you have to buy a auto tranny like the second gens?

Correct, the only longbed manual is in an access cab.

Thanks! Why won't Toyota offer a long bed quad cab in the manual? I'd have one in my driveway if they did. Every rig I've owned has been a stick besides my old square body pickup.

    Mostly stuff I built.
They only build a small percentage of the market in double cab long bed and an even smaller percent of manual transmission trucks.
So a manual long bed would be like 1% of 1%. It is just not cost effective to them.

It seems like every truck I see running around is a long bed quad cab now days. I'd be that .1 percenter.

Probably wouldnt surprise you any how many of the so-called car enthusiasts bought this hook-line-sinker, a la "OMG, these 10 spd autos are so good they are more efficient than a manual!"

Um, no they are not... they are just geared so that the manual is always with a foot in the power band, because somehow the automakers who figured that MT guys know about shifting all of a sudden forget how to shift if they are in 6th and wanting power (thereby complaining and hence we dont get a truly low 6th highway cruising gear).

But, I think its more straightforward and possibly a conspiracy theory. EPA tests on autos are different than manuals-- manuals you have to hold specific gears while testing and you measure the emissions. For autos, they let the computer figure out how to shift. So in a way, manuals are more honest on EPA emissions tests and will hurt the automakers fleet MPG/emissions compared to an auto that is well tuned.

More than that, the ACLB with MT (what I have) is only available on the TRD Sport trim. Not the OR or PRO.

Yes, you're right! I forgot about that.

It's such BS that they don't offer it in the OR or PRO though. I cant imagine it costing them any more money to produce.

Just returned from a fun street run in my 2017 SR MT 2.7. On an isolated section of road, with serpentine curves, I let the Tacoma run a little. Wound the rpms up a bit and powered thru the curves. The feel of the rear-wheel-drive pushing the vehicle, along with the responsive throttle/engine and the sweet song of the engine was magical. Felt "at one" with the truck. Still smiling.

It's pretty annoying you can't get the MT with a DCLB. It is a pickup and I'd have preferred to get a more usable sized bed, but have to settle for the short bed.

Other than maybe a different length driveshaft, is there even any special parts they would need to do it? Seems like it would have been pretty easy to include it as an option, but I guess some accountant somewhere decided it would cost to much or something and so they nixed it.

I get about the same mpg going 65mph. I can get up to 27mpg with smart use of coasting and engine braking downhill. Not running AC also helps a lot.

I did notice a 1mpg difference using the AC or not. Thank God I got a white truck, as it doesn't absorb the sun like dark colors do.

    Amazing mileage. I don't think I ever saw 20mpg. I am usually around 16-17.

No heavy mods, but after I posted that I went out for an evening ride with my 14 1/2 year old rottweiler and realized I leave it running with a/c on a lot of the time to keep her comfortable and yes I drive mostly around town. I am not complaining I love this truck.
