Unknown lift, maybe 2" I don't know how to ID it, and would rather set it back to stock.
Send us a picture of the service sheet once your vehicle is done. We'd all like to see if there is a new part number. While they are going to be doing the Service Campaign on your Truck, can they possibly have what we are expecting already? A new/upgraded, different part number HVAC fan, and that's what's being installed?

Sure would like to know it's really a new part.

I get it, the part number is the same. What I hope to find from others who have experienced this fan failure is whether or not their HVAC operating system is auto or manual. It's pretty time consuming to go back thru many pages of comments to seek this information out, especially when it isn't there. Why do I want to know? Engineering curiosity I suppose. It's the same fan, it seems that owners with BOTH auto and manual HVAC controls are experiencing failures. I'm grateful that Toyota has released this Service Campaign, but why would it leave out the auto control owners? We're all experiencing the same failure, on the same place, in the fan w the same part number, right?

Or am I wrong here? Really wanting to know.

    Thank you for your input.

Oh ok. I guess I understand your question now a little better. I apologize.

Not sure if the controls affect the failure rate or in what way.

From what I’ve gathered, in the manufacturing process of the early motors and cages, the tolarences were not within spec of each other. When leaving the A/C selector on high or turning the selector quickly, the sudden torque of the motor causes stress on the cage causing it to crack over time. The later manufactured motors have a tighter tolerance on the shaft/fan cage.

Also, I haven't heard/read anything stating that the Auto control owners have been left out...it comes down by vin/ production date. Is there anyone that you know of that falls within affected Production dates with auto controls and is being excluded from this? Let me know please I am curious.

Now that's a bummer. I am assuming then that it is the same part. Somehow you've got info we don't have access to, but thanks for chipping in.

Not trying to go OT, but while we know that the CKP was an issue early in the production of the Gen 3 line, based on some flawed coating on the cranks, they didn't apparently modify the cranks, but modified the CKPs. On the recalled 32K early production Tacomas, the CKP was replaced by an "upgraded" CKP which had a different part number.

So with that in mind, and your information, this isn't an upgraded HVAC fan is it? Seems without a different part number even if it's just an "A" added on the end, it's the same originally flawed part. Total bummer.

There is a lot of verbiage here, but the bulletin does state that the subject vehicles are equipped w manual HVAC control systems. This leaves the automatic HVAC crowd out of the picture apparently. Read where it says "NOTE"

Take a look at the letter posted previously in this thread. It shows that the guys that have trucks made after late Aug-2017 are excluded. That tells us those individuals already have revised a/c blowers. If your truck falls within specified dates you do not have the updated blower. Its not secret information. You can call your local dealerships service/parts department and get a lot of helpful info.

I believe the 04000- # used on the campaign is what comes in a late-2017/2018+ models. I'm not sure why they changed the numbers for the campaign and not for the 2018+.

I've forgotten where I put my production date info, and I've forgotten how to determine that info again.

I suppose I'm cynical enough to feel that with the same part number, Techs are going to be installing a lot of the same flawed parts until the old stock runs out, then the new stock gets used. How do they tell what is the old part, and what is the new part without a different part number?

Having spent a lifetime in an industry where safety is a real big deal, this just sits on me very uncomfortably. I don't suppose someone is going to crash and burn from that issue, but it just seems real sketchy to have to trust that somehow, the tech will just know that he is installing the correct part. Or somehow, is this practice of obsolescence how they will dispose of their accumulated old stock/original fan, and then start installing new/upgraded fans? Since there was such an apparent waiting list of backordered old fans, I suppose there aren't all that many in the system. They will fail again, and hopefully Toyota will then install the proper, new upgraded fan............unless they stiff arm them and say they've already had the service campaign done on their VIN, and now they have to pay to have it done. Yeah, cynicism. But I am a true realist.

    Opihi59 ,
I just got off the phone with my service rep. I was told that the 04000# being used is supposed to be specifically used for the campaign only and that it is a different part from the old ones. He also said the guys who don't apply for this campaign already have an updated part in their trucks.

Found my build date, it was June, 2016. Is that early enough to be included??

Looking at the bulletin, it seems that it should be in the published range.........

Looking at the letter previously posted, it would appear so. Grab your VIN and go here: https://www.toyota.com/recall

I was editing as you posted. Will check based on VIN and find out for sure. Thanks.

Editing--checked via the recall link posted and the Service Campaign item pops up, so it does seem I'll be getting a letter, or a call from the service manager I contacted the day after the SC was released.

I just looked at the letter again and saw the note about auto hvac controls. That explains why my rep said failures had to do with torque of the motors breaking the cage.

I wonder if the auto hvac guys can turn the air up high, turn the truck off, then when turning it back on it’s on high again as soon as power is applied??
