Get a piece of wood, I used a 4x4, and place it against the axle splines with the but just barely on the end enough to protect the threads. Hit it hard with a hammer until the cv moves back. You won’t even need the slide hammer the whole assembly slides right off as long as it’s off the splines.

Once the axle is off just use a big flat head to wiggle the assembly off.

Ive got the haynes manual, its like this job is too hard you shouldnt do it (almost literally saya this). I watched some you tube vids IDK they must not have been working on 125k+ mile vehicles in the rust belt.

Amen, rust like that is eeeevil. Acetone and power steering fluid (not the synthetic stuff), shake it up good before applying and let it soak/reapply several times.

To be clear you are saying hit the CV axle inwards of vehicle until it releases from external spline? Right now this thing is totally locked at the spline. When I hit it inwards the entire bearing assembly went back up to flush with the mating component. I just blasted the spline with PB blaster.

Correct. The CV axle splines should be able to slip in and out of the hub splines fairly easily. It sounds like yours are stuck together.

Yup, now hit it harder but not directly metal on metal or you’ll damage the threads and not be able to put the axle nut back on. You need something to buffer the blow, wood works good. Use a heavy hammer and it should push right out. It’ll move about an inch and that’s all it takes.
