What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Im doing prismatic powders "cosmic gray." The one you see is the best looking one, the others have some mild corrosion that will need blasting to get off.

 

Seriously? I’m going to have to check this place out. Not far from me.

The color sample I got makes it look darker than that by just a bit, I hope it turns out more like the pic. But it will still be lighter than what I'm on now, which is a bit too dark in my opinion.

They let you buy paint stripper in CA but you can't have spray paint that cures within a month. Did the paint at least come with a spray straw

 

I know it’s really shit paint remover because it’s “Fully Biodegradable”.

It’s the best I can get. We’ll see how well it works. I’m sandblasting it afterwards.

 

I have the same issue because of my aftermarket wheels (not exactly sure what they are). I rubbed with stock size 265/70r16 ko2s until I trimmed the pinch weld

 

But he only rubs on the uca

 

When I first saw those wheels on turd gens I thought they were one of the ugliest Tacoma wheels yet. I find it funny that people are even making vinyl overlays to black them out. But when I saw them on your truck, they actually don't look bad. Works on your truck (looks wise) but on nothing else that I have seen.

That's what I read too but I decided to try cause there was no other wheel I liked with the offset that I wanted. Waited for the next shipment for the color I wanted to be back in stock. At the date & time listed from the restock notification thread, I added the wheels to my cart, checked out, & that was it, no losing the lotto crap for me. Went back 10 mins later & they were still in stock. But then again the color I wanted is the least popular, everyone wants black & gunmetal.

That was on a Thurs, restock thread said orders wouldn't ship until the follow Wed. Well mine shipped the very next day (Fri), got them on Monday, & had them on the truck on Tues.

I had a question for Vin and also asked about getting a replacement center cap cause my dumb ass dropped one & scratched it. Vin shipped one out to me for free along with a t-shirt. Couldn't be happier with my experience with them & I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.

 

That's awesome! Everything I've read about Vin and his Customer Service has been top notch... glad to see another confirmation. Perhaps there is hope yet...

I really do like these wheels, I’ve gotten a lot of compliments on them. IMO they make the look of the truck.

And it’s always nice to have OEM Toyota wheels on your Toyota truck.

 

Yeah he's great, not many around with customer service like that, only the independent guys & not big companies. There's only one other vendor I deal with that has top notch service like SCS but it's not truck related, but same thing, independent. So I'd say don't give up hope mainly cause how he takes care of his customers.

I hear they're getting a bigger warehouse (or already have) so they can stock more wheels. Sounds like the issue was space for inventory but not sure. And in the past few months they've been restocking twice a month rather than only once a month previously.

I almost didn't want to wait & was going to just get gunmetal. Waited 15 more days & then got the color I wanted, so glad I waited.

You masked off the bushings, are they not poly bushings that just pop right out? Would be much easier if they do.

Also how come you just didn't paint over?

 

They’re in there pretty good. I couldn’t get the bushings out.

I didn’t paint over because I’m using special anodized paint that’s made to show the “grain” of the metal under it. It’s more of a metal dye rather than a solid paint, if that makes any sense. The finish is transparent and allows you to see the metal.

That’s why I’m going through the process of sandblasting, and wet polishing it.

This is the 1st round of sandblasting.

 

After 2 weeks of sweat and cursing i finally finished working on my taco today. (for now) me and my 9yr old knocked out the following after work and on the weekend.

Ah I see. Doesn't matter now but TC's UCA service video shows an easy way how to remove & install the bushings better than I can explain.

I've used those anodized look paints before. Looks really nice when you do it right. So you went with red "anodize"?
