What are signs that the carrier bearing may be crapping out? I've getting bad vibrations on acceleration, and what almost sounds like a squealing serpentine belt which doesn't sound like it's from the front.

Been downpouring like crazy, so can't get underneath to check.

I’ve been to Texas in Northboro and Tennessee’s in Framingham...pretty standard. Fireflys in Marlboro seems to be fairly over-rated as well. I haven’t been able to find any real stellar BBQ in the north yet...

Thanks for the advice, we must be neighbors as I’m right up the road off 140 near Red Rock.

We ended up going to Arturo’s for a “nicer” meal as my wife called it.

I'm about a mile off of 140 in hopedale right by the airport. We've been meaning to go to red rock but haven't yet.

We went there more when the in-laws lived in town and we lived in Framingham. We’ve only been there twice since we bought this house 3 years ago and can walk there. Make sure to check out the menu before you go as it’s definitely different.

It's pretty good though. Honestly there's not much variety in the area so I think it's good

Squeezing is a good sign. Another would be if it’s getting hot after a drive. The rubber around the bearing is really soft and could be the cause of your vibrations. The soft rubber can cause vibrations even if the bearing inside is perfectly fine, Toyota just used a crappy set up for that part.

Just my $0.02, if you replace it, don’t get a Dorran replacement, the warranty is great but the bearing is garbage and it’s a pain to change out.

Don’t get me wrong, I like it there. It’s just very outside my normal wheelhouse which is why I typically warn people to check the menu first. We went to the scotch pairing dinner they had and it was great. My usual go to is the eggplant polenta stack.

Would high build primer solve the surface imperfection issue?

Could you sand it smooth and then scuff and spray?

Not sure on the price, my wife has a 2016 trail we put katskinz and heated seats in to sorta make it a premium (along with a mildly upgraded speaker system and sound proofing) and she absolutely loves the car, she has 40k miles on it in two years, not a single issue except maybe an airbag recall. I think she has the kdss also, which doesn't make too big a difference if you want to go aftermarket on the suspension because they make kits for the kdss runners too.

When I drive it (often enough) I love it too. The engine is super responsive and once you get over a very quick lag, it pulls hard. There is also as much room in that thing as my taco with the bed basically. We easily fit are 5 (smaller) dogs and gear for a week for vacation, frequently have bit stuff to move in it too. I've towed everything I tow with my taco with the 4runner also, it does just as well as the truck if not better.

What sucks on 4runners (and tacos) is that the re-sale is really high where if you get one that hasn't been used much the price is the same as a new one. I'd try to work them tho and say you aren't sure about the quality of the stuff someone installed, and if they were off roading seriously (as sliders somewhat suggest) you are worried about hidden damage or something I dunno. I think it looks good tho, and I recommend those 4runners a lot.

Never really noticed that a FJ has 3 wiper blades on the front, is that factory or is that a mod? Just had one driving up my ass on 495

Yeah it rode good. It's for my younger brother. He's finally realized that he probably needs a truck or SUV if he wants to start going to places I do. Went with him because he's only had cars and though he's very mechanical, vehicles aren't really his gig.

The toytecs were a bit oxidized. Enough to warrant being replaced in a season or two. Rode stiff and a bit like a pogo stick. But not terrible.

The sliders were freshly painted, but no groves in the base metal. Also no rubbing on the rims, corners, or under the vehicle at all.

He ended up putting a deposit on it so he can talk to the bank. He's got enough money to put about half the value for a down payment on it, not bad for just turning 25.

Hopefully we can get the dealer down about a G. Going to tell him it's going to need the suspension redone and try the " we aren't fans that the sliders are welded to the frame. Toyota doesn't like that" route

    Morning all...

USC makes something called 'icing' for fine scratches. Start with a high build primer (epoxy preferred) and see how smooth it is after sanding with 400 - 600 grit. If the scratches are there, spot them with the icing and prime over (again, epoxy preferred). Wet sand and paint - it'll be smooth as glass. Note: 2 part epoxy requires PPE. Isocyanurates (sp?) are nasty. Gloves and a respirator from mixing through spraying are a must.

Going to look at the Denali this afternoon. Let's see what happens.
