So I'm at the stealership right now...

I'm in here for a tire rotation and I've already been waiting for about 30 minutes and the girl come up to me and says, "they can't figure out how to take your rims off". Well I go back there and assess the situation and tell them that they need to take off the center caps. Well all they need to do is remove six nuts with an Allen wrench and that would do it. Well the dude doesn't have a friggin Allen wrench!!! He asks like 3 of his buddies and no one has one!!!! I couldn't help laughing and sayin, "dude!! It's a freakin garage!! And I see at least 20 full size tool chests in this place!! Someone has to have one!!". Well he finally finds someone that has one and gets the caps off. Then they tell me that it has a special lug nut that needs a thin walled socket, and guess what..... No one has one!!!!!! Well I tell them to clear the friggin service light and get my truck off the lift! They came find me after I sat down to tell me that they found one and it wouldn't be long. That was 30 min ago! Faaaaack!!!

 

Takes like 15 min to rotate tires at home.

you didnt get a key to your lugs? most aftermarket lugs/lock lugs come with a key man

 

I understand what the op is upset about but I do this at home.

Agreed he have done elsewhere, I think the OP had to go to dealership to get the code checked/cleared, probably under warranty. He must have figured to save some time he would just get this completed.

I agree with the OP, oil changes and tire rotation are free for the first two years so why not let the dealership do it for me. And, I would expect a tech at a dealership to have basic hand tools. Of course, at that point I think I would have just told them to forget it and done it myself since the tech didn't have basic tools I wouldn't expect him to do a very thorough job of something as simple as changing the oil and rotating the tires.

i thought wheels like that use those wierd "tuner" lugs? you know the ones that are ribbed and accept a key. regular hex lugs work, but isnt the socket very very thin?

i'm pretty sure i would have taken the truck back. with all the smart ass laughing, i bet the techs are taking turns rubbing their dicks on the shift knob.

lol same thing happened to me. Toyota fail. Fortunately I didn't wait THAT long and I keep a spare lug key in my glove box

 

Do you not have an allen wrench and a thinwall socket and wrench in your truck?

If not, how do you expect to change a tire if you get a flat?

 

Easy guys! Quit busting my balls! I don't have the means neccesary to do this at home, they're not keyed lugs, i was in the city and had some time between class and figured that the dealership would be quicker at noon and also figured that "it's just a tire rotation, how could they fuck that up!?", it was less than $20 and I was I little pressed for time and it was CONVIENIENT! The only "FAIL" on my part is that I didn't know that my rims needed speacial sockets and YES I would have been FUCKED if I had to change a tire in the middle of nowhere!!! Some of y'all need to change y'all tampons. The thread was essentially a rant and if I wanted to hear this kind of BS I couldve stayed at the dealer.

 

I didn't get anything free from my dealership! But I can still understand what he is complaining about.

 

To everyone making fun. I have one question. How do you balance them at home? When I get mine rotated I also get them balanced, I have yet to have someone tell me how this can be done at home normal home tools.
