ECU TSB Update

I have definitely noticed lower fuel economy, but haven't but many miles on yet.

 

Might be showing lower MPGs cause its more fun to drive!

 

I am assuming it's a combination of this and maybe some computer relearning.

 

We’re not driving automatics, and that happens nearly instantly on them as they recalibrate through the speeds / shifts as you get up to cruising speed.

I have 285s, so I am sure that notice it more than someone rolling stock.

 

The update is specifically for the manual. There is no reason why they can't do it. Bad wording on Toyota's part when writing the TSB has created dealer confusion.

 

I have about 400 miles on it now. There is no change in mpg. Check one of my earlier posts where I did a fuel economy test on the new tune over a approx 240 mile trip. Some are reporting lower mpg but I suspect they are getting their foot into it or not conducting a proper test.

 

I can’t stand it. I just bought the tactrix. Now I just need to figure out how to download all the right files.

 

Mpg is about the same or maybe a touch better on my daily commute. Also, while our trucks may not "learn" in the same way the A/T trucks do, it does take time for fuel trims/knock correction etc etc to settle in. Hundreds of miles. Each time a new version of OVtune is flashed for example, you notice subtle changes happening (obviously in addition to the big changes over previous stock calibrations). In almost all cases, throttle response has dulled slightly over time on my truck.

 

That's a shame about the dealer... But good news for us that you'll have the ability to do so yourself!

 

I have completed the update. Took me 11 minutes from the time I walked out the door of my house until I walked back in.

For the update process, it was super easy. The application prompted me for everything to do.

I'll report back later on the driving, after I do some errands today.

What dealership did you go to? I was thinking about setting up an appointment with Camelback Toyota before attempting it myself.

 

Toyota of Surprise. They did the scan, and found the update, but then found the TSB and said "the update only applies to automatic" and wouldn't do it... even though the health check said it was available.

 

lol I figured that surge in second was VVTI kicking in like V-TEC

 

Can someone verify how large the .cuw file should be? The version I downloaded seems very small for an entire update to the ECU. Just want to make sure I have the correct file before I try and update. Thanks in advance.

OVtune's files are smaller than that, but then again they are .bin or .hex so I guess it makes sense.
