04b13 is great but given what I’ve seen happen with OVT over the last year I have no doubt that it is going to be fantastic

 

I hope so but I'm not as optimistic as you.

 

Well if I get mid range torque and throttle snap back with no ill effects then I'm happy.

Mat need not mess with too much this time, 04B13 is pretty damn good right out of the gate.

I think what we'll see is the new calibrations will be less problematic to tune.

Oh, and will someone in the vicinity of Mat's shop in VA PLEASE volunteer their truck for development/dyno testing? For more than one day, if possible.

This is one thing we've been missing on the M/T side for quite a while, and it needs to happen IMO. Nothing better than seat time for Mat to perfect his tunes.

So I truly can't remember if this was addressed way back when Mat first brought up custom tuning details but will he also be including speedometer calibration for larger than OEM tires?

 

I will get in trouble using that one.

 

Ok, I'm a little bit confused, can you guys help me understand how this new 04B13 update seems to have solved the 04B10 issue? Don't get me wrong I'm happy to hear it but I guess what I'm having trouble wrapping my head around is why an updated tune from Toyota is different from an updated tune from OV. I guess I never fully understood why different 04B** versions made any difference because I would think that once it was overwritten with an OV tune then it shouldn't matter what was previously loaded on it.

As an example of how I'm visualizing it in my head, wouldn't loading an OV tune be like taking a computer that has windows 8 and formatting it and then installing Linux instead. How does it know or care that it previously had windows 8, now it has Linux and theoretically it shouldn't make any difference what it had before as long as the hardware is capable of running what it has now?

And this new tune from Toyota then would be something like taking that computer with Windows 8, formatting it and installing Windows 10. Ya, this time you're installing a new version of the software from the same, official company as it originally had instead of an "open source" producer like OV, but still in my head I don't understand how the ECU would know or care what it previously had installed once it's been overwritten.

Obviously I'm missing something here because different ECU versions from the factory clearly reacted differently to OV tunes, can anyone show me what I'm not seeing?

Also, my truck has 04B12 but if/when Mat comes out with 1.05 would I potentially be even better off by switching to 04B13 and then switching to the 1.05? Would I be missing out on any smoothness by installing the "04B12 version" of 1.05 vs the "04B13 version".

I would kind of like to try 04B13 anyway just out of curiosity, it sounds like most of you just went to the dealer to have it flashed but I read a couple posts that sounded more like you loaded it yourself but if that's the case I didn't see any info as to where you got the file?

 

I have also been holding out for this. Didn't want to distract from getting the truck actually running right first but I would really like to have my speedometer read accurate again if possible.

 

Hasn't been a priority for me because i still beat up on the OEM Wranglers. They've been great. But when the time comes for new rubbers, I may go larger

 

This TSB will surely hurt OVTUNE sales.he will just have to step up his game by adding more features in the custom tune,as this is no longer drivability tune.

 

I beleave tune is more like an app.
The TSB would be like windows 8 updating to win 8.1.
I don’t think tuners build there tunes from scratch,they modify what’s there.
But that’s just a theory

For tuning it your self you will need Toyota TIS , tactrix cable and the file I got from the software update thread on TW

 

This is a question best left for Mat, but in a nutshell his tunes don't change all of the code in a particular calibration (04BXX). In other words, there's still a lot of Toyota in there. There could be underlying code still causing problems, like we saw with 04B10. We had limp mode and weird behavior when testing for the original M/T tune, while 04B11/12 users did not.

The latest files from Toyota fix almost every driveablity issue we had from the factory. It's like you are running OVtune, but without the extra torque (91 octane) and some throttle snap. Much better code to build an aftermarket tune from, IMO.

 

True. I saw somewhere that someone said they were feeling buyer's remorse over OVT with the new TSB having been released and i get that i suppise, although I don't feel the same way. If i ran the 87 maps, yeah, i likely would, but I daily the 1.04A 91oct and I'm perfectly happy. Enjoy the bump to power and torque very much, especially off road

 

i jumped on board early with the OV alpha for driveability alone. now this file exceeds what Mat could produce given the base, but i have zero regrets, although i understand why one might feel that way. I'm just looking forward to seeing what Mat does with the new base in 04B13. really looking forward to that.

 

I'm having $$$ regrets but still hoping he improves with the 1.05. I'm not running the 91 octane tunes because the price of fuel adds approx $15 on a tank of fuel.
