How was the install?... can't seem to find details about how this is installed. Do you have to pull the dash apart?

Yes, you have to pull the dash apart. You have to remove the instrument cluster and the calibrator plugs into the factory harness, and the calibrator plugs in to the cluster where the factory harness did.

On a scale of 1-10, based on difficulty of install, I'd say it is a 3...pretty straight forward and easy.

Hi guys, I’m getting 285/70 17 and I would like to correct the speedo. Is this something that you have to leave plugged in? Or you programmed it and remove it?
I’ve seen this, are they the same?

I have an UltraGauge plugged in that I would like to keep.

It stays installed behind the cluster.

I installed one in my truck and had nothing but problems with it. I would start the truck up and drive off, the Speedo would not work and stay at 0 mph. It would set a check engine light every time that happened. Sometimes a couple times a day. I exchanged it with 4 wheel parts where I got it. The new one did the same thing. Hypertext tried to update the unit before I exchanged it. I have just keep in mind that at freeway speeds I'm 3 mph faster than stated.
It's good to hear that people have them work.

Auto trucks read speed via wheel speed sensors. Gears do not affect speedometer, only tire diameter.

Just installed this unit on my truck last night... My truck with the regar and bigger tires was 5 mph faster than it was reading. After the install it now reads 10mph slower.

Any tips on what I should do from someone that had this same problem? I left the USB plugged into the black box for easy access when I change tire size.

Did anyone unplug their battery at the time of install?

I was told by hypertech to hook my computer up and change the tire size till I got the correct speed. I was about 10mph off when I did all the measurements they say you need to in order for it to get the correct speed. It doesn't work that easy and the tech seemed to know the issues and that was his fix. I just drove around till I got it correct.

The "speedo" gear you are talking about is the transmission output speed sensor. And the 2 different part numbers are for 2 different transmissions. Dont swap that out unless you want your abs to freak out.

Right on. So what I came to realize from emailing Hypertech is that our trucks read the speed from sensors in the wheels rather than the trans. I had input my gear ratio change into the app which showed for the 10mph slower. They told me to leave the gear ratio un-touched and just input your tire size. So I went back and corrected it and it’s only 2 mph off now!
I’m sure I can get it more dialed in if I measure the tires as they are worn
