    Pulling and opening a diff isn’t as scary as it sounds. I’m going to bet you can drop the diff, open it up, reseal it, and reinstall with less time and aggravation than you’ve already spent trying to fish it out. Just my $0.02.

    All kidding aside, plastic fork trick works. I've used it when I've dropped stuff into steam pipe filters and had to get them out of bung holes. 100% success rate

    Why not just drink the shrink potion, crawl in and remove it? It's what I would do. Surprised nobody suggested this solution yet.
