Of course the day I purchase the tactrix there is a thread on someone bricked there ecu. I am def a novice at computers. This update does not seem too complicated however. I have a dedicated pc laptop with windows 10 that I will be downloading T.S. with and the correct file. I assume this is all I need to do it correctly. I have read every post in this thread from the beginning. Did I miss a post that has a step by step with all the files needed? Plan on doing this mid week or whenever I get the cable. Thanks.

    You're 04B10.

    04B13 is much better.

    Details on this bricking?

I have a post somewhere around Page 40 with links to the steps.

Basically, install TS, install the drivers from Tactrix, grab the CUW files.

Get the computer booted up and plug in the Tactrix cable to a USB port. With the key out plug the cable into the OBD port. Double click on the CUW file and follow the on screen directions.

I thought the key had to be in the ON position?

The instructions in TS actually tell you to turn the key or push the start button to the on position.

There is a thread a few pages long in the forums about someone bricking their ecu yesterday.

So can someone who has done this update please verify if the key was out or the key was on? Seems like it has to be one or the other and with the recent bricking I'm a bit nervous.

I had it in and off. I think once you get to the first step of the calibration wizard where you choose which device to use, it gives you specific key position at every step.

I even missed the first step to turn it on, and it failed because it couldn't read the ECU. Safest way to fail :)

Start with it out and then do what Techstream says. You have to turn it on and off multiple times throughout the whole thing.

I'm going to say, this is one of those things I didn't know was wrong with my truck. Every vehicle I've had before this one was a Ford, and I just assumed the differences in driving it were the differences in manufacturing. However, now it drives like everything else I have ever had does. It amazes me that a computer update can do this.

So glad I did this update.

Well. I can come in here and say that. It’s on the first page of third gen threads. Not hard to miss. Not trying to spook anyone just referencing what I thought to be a relevant thread. I think you need to chill.

Key to "on" position right after I connect the Tactrix cable to the truck/computer. Double click on the correct CUW file and follow the steps. Read the on screen prompts, then before doing anything, read them again lol. Went smooth for me.

Just habit in my case I guess, as this is how I start an OVtune flash every time..

Ya, once you have everything plugged in and open the CUW file (you can open the CUW file before you plug anything to your truck just to see what it looks like and what it’s going to tell you to do at the first step), a screen will open on your computer that will give you step by step instructions of what position the key should be in, when to move it to that position, what the computer is doing...

Click the Post number on the upper right of each post. A window will pop up. Copy and paste that link and it will take you to that post.
