ECGS Bushing......I’m In A Better Place

Sorry man, that sucks. Wish I could recall more from my install but it's been a year now. Maybe get some rest and hit it again tomorrow? If nothing else, maybe get another nut and jbweld that sucker on the end to give you another place to put a wrench on

 

Are you sure it's not threading into the piece inside and still pulling the bearing out slowly? Try backing out the nut again and lubing threads

 

If I remember right, when I did mine it did the same thing but even though the bolt was spinning it's still tightening on the back nut/puller part and it's pulling the bearing out isn't it? Or am I not thinking right?

 

Here’s what I did, I notched the end of the bolt with my cut off tool and pounded on a socket so I can put a wrachet on the end to hold the bolt so it doesn’t spin.

Put everything back in, perfectly centered and tighten the nut on the outside of the plate a few turn and it stops completely tight, I’ll cross thread this tool I know it, this bushing is not coming out.

 

It will take a bit of torque to get that bearing moving, it's in there pretty tight. The key is to have that back nut part square on the back of the bearing.

 

Are you putting pretty good tightening force on it? Once it breaks free goes a lot easier.

 

And the more I think about it, I believe that bolt is going to spin more than the nut spinning on the bolt. Just make sure your centered, and the bolt is threaded all the way through the puller nut and just crank on it. It'll come out.

 

And once it does, do a victory dance and be grateful you never have to do it again!

 

What does it matter if it damages the threads out on the end? Couldn't you use a bolt with a hex head?

Is the piece inside homemade or store bought? In other words are you sure it's not too wide to pull the bearing and not hang up in the bearing sleeve?


BTW: Now you can name your truck "Apollo 13".

 

Then comes what was the hard part for me anyway, getting that new bushing started square and driving it in.

 

And this is why they say to put something in the diff when you do it on ecgs install

Good luck dude .Can only imagine how bad that must be. Maybe try grabbing it with that claw tool from the drain then attempting to push it back up so you can get it from the axle opening?

 

He got the piece out. Now working on getting bearing out.

 

Mine came right out .If I recall from the video they mention if it doesn't come out easy you might not be seated properly and you need to adjust.

 

Real Jeeps have round headlights.

 

I have a shorter one of these in my kitchen, I use it for pickles. Works wonders.

 

Finally got it, only took five hours and the bushing is mangled. It was so tight it actually cross threaded one end of the tool and bent the plate

 

Holy endurance run. Keep kicking ass man !

 

Glad this ended in sweet victory

 

Not over yet still have to install the new one tomorrow and adjust shocks, fluid fill, etc.

Put the new bushing in the freezer about an hour before install. Will help it slip in easier.
