This is Sutro Tower in San Francisco, California.

    791C98A6-3A25-4B19-839A-A4D8607A4DF4.jpg

It broadcasts 13 television channels, 4 radio stations, and 20 communication networks.

It outputs a combined rating of 23.75 Megawatts of power over dozens of high power transmitters in order to reach an audience of over one million clients in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Sutro Tower is wired for three phase power. Why? Because it’s a goddamn radio tower.

Skipping is what you should do. There is very little reason to read the bs. Its more an active conversation that changes rapidly

I tried to get the power company to run 3 phase to my house. You'd think they'd be happy to do it, just be an expensive install... They flat refused. Oh well.

For a very good reason. That’s a ridiculous amount of power for a residential zoned structure to have.

It's nice so you don't have to run real shop equip on VFDs and have them be gimped torque wise though

Can someone make sure he never does any wiring! Residential is rarely serviced with 3 phase.

Go back to your books and stop embarrassing your self.

Not really, 3 phase at 100amp/phase is only a 300 amp service.

Who needs a 300 amp service? Not many, maybe some farm applications.

Far more than any residential AC compressor needs though.

200 amp is pretty much standard for a newer house in my area. Easy to to exceed that if you're running demand water heaters.

I knew I wasn’t crazy. Three phase in a residential is ridiculous.

It's very rare, I only know one dude with it. He has the best equipment though, bastard. Hopefully Spokane County will let me set up 3 phase service for a shop building on my house property plot.

You see that makes sense. I’ve seen lathes, bigger air compressors, and table saws wired for three phase.

I’d love a shop building. Just don’t have the land for it out here. Real Estate is too expensive, and the cheap land is zoned for residential.

I remember reading about this grow operation that was exposed because the heat from the grow lights were melting the snow on the roof, unlike any other home in the area.
