Options are good. No qualm there. To much of anything can still be bad however. Would you agree that there is a big difference between the amount of products SAW offers...and FOX offers? There is only so much with SAW to look through. You could look through pages n pages of Fox.

Yes, the fox thing annoys me. Every time I tried to look at fox shocks, I just would leave the page after looking at 60 different types of coilovers. 2.0 this. 2.5 that. Factory this. Performance that. Oh but Factory only comes with resi's. This really should tell you all you need to know about why I think Fox is blah. All the "options" and not really much "option" at all. Especially when it comes to their factory line. You can't buy a non resi 2.5 Fox factory coilover.

It's a personal opinion. I like Mr. Gideon as well as anybody, but we will never see eye to eye on off road performance parts....80% of this stuff is gimmick to get your money, imo. I'm not trying to start anything or nothing but....I don't know why off roaders think their "'hobby" is not full of companies more interested in profit than anything else. King, SAW, Fox, Headstrong, Downsouth, their all a business. They want your money. They might be big into the customers, and post their trucks and blah, blah, but they have to. Their market is, in relation to how many ppl there are, quite small.

I get where you're trying to go with the Toyota thing. The application is different though. Toyota makes cars. Fox makes a specialized car part. Even Toyota got into the coilover game, they offer their own setup now...cause Toyota wants your $$.

I love this wheelin' stuff as much as everyone else, and I'll spend the $. I bought a 2nd fuckin' truck for god's sake. But I'm not going to waste it either. I bought a beat up truck. I would NEVER buy new coilovers. Never. You can buy used for 600, rebuild 300 and save 300-500. For like Gid said, the shit is gonna rust and get ugly no matter what.

I don't know. I've never been one who gets over the top impressed with much. Let me put it this way, no matter how much of a badass one may think they are and how many ppls ass they could kick, there is will always be someone...who could kick that dudes ass. In the car world...no matter how badass and fast someone can build a car, there is will always be someone who can do it more badass and faster. Levi has a bad ass truck that goes seemingly anywhere. There are other people with more $ than Levi and bigger trucks than Levi and can go places even Levi couldn't go. There are places at AOP even Levi won't go, but other people can.

It does not mean I don't appreciate the aspects and work that goes into every truck, but I don't get overly "ga-ga" over much. Cause there is always someone who can do it bigger and better.

I don't want the most badass truck. I just want a truck that does it job, and does it job well. I don't need high end valving to drive though the damn mud. If I was racing, for money, in the desert, then I would maybe give a shit. But I don't. So I don't.

Nick, if you want my help in any way, just text me. Ask me for facts and I can provide whatever I know. Opinions are arguable and not something I care to do in this format but you can derive your own from the facts. I don't claim to even come close to knowing everything and will gladly tell you if I can't offer up anything intelligent. 50% of the truck stuff I know, I learned from asking questions and spending hundreds of hours researching the answers. The other 50% I learned from doing the work myself. The key to research is using your own intellect to decifer the information presented to you. Just holla at me if you like.

The only place to buy coilovers is from Ryan at Accutune Offroad. He custom tunes every coilover the the vehicle and does everything from the Tacoma to full on Ultra 4 vehicles. Give him a call and he will set you straight. I run a set of 4 of his tuned coilovers on my crawler.

Wilco! You're a wealth of knowledge, for me, and I respect all of your input. You've been doing this much longer than I, with the exact same starting platform (truck). Hats off to you, sir :hattip:

SOS 15% off sale throwing a wrench in my other mod desires, for the month. Could use a mid skid. Noticed that I've sat and got hung up on the frame/sliders/cross member/t-case more and more lately.

Was also told that the more experience I get with wheeling not mud trails, a mid skid would save my drivetrain even more and smooth the bottom of the truck. Thanks @Robertocritser for the pro tip

Anyone know the factory PN for the 3 leaf pack?
Local shop that I got my u bolts from might be able to make me a setup for the truck but wants this to use for reference I guess.

If they only want to order from one of the vendors who already carry them, then they are of no use. Worth a shot I guess.

I'll chime in here! I'm Matt not Marie and am just responding using her login, with her approval of course :)
Allmotorrex would you agree or disagree that quality of ride is subjective, meaning that two people who drive the same exact truck can have two totally different opinions as far as how the truck feels and handles?

I know where you are going with this whole generic valving* thing and I get it, but in my personal experience having the valving set based on information provided over the phone from a customer is not exactly the best approach (I realize you are likely well aware of this). Quite honestly how would one tell if this custom valving even took place? Do these companies have a team of employees who build these shocks selecting specific shims and stacking them according to exact parameters provided by each customer such that the shock meets their driving habits and typical terrain? If this is the case that is pretty impressive. Though to me it sounds a bit unrealistic IMO, both doing this for every customer (if they claim to do so) and getting them dialed just right for each. Also I can't imagine the additional expense, labor and time this would take to do this for every single set of shocks purchased.

Getting shocks valved just right so that they perform based on ones needs is no easy task and I would say a lot of what makes this process so difficult goes back to my question to you regarding quality of ride being subjective. I am lucky enough to know someone who is very familiar with valving these shocks and when I asked him to set mine up just based on information given, the first time around they were slightly better, or so I think, but not where I wanted them. It really wasn't until we went wheeling together to really get them right. Even after the 2nd round he still made one more change to make both front and back darn near perfect for me.

I guess my point here is if you want your shocks tuned right and based on your personal needs, its likely not going to happen just from a simple phone call gathering basic information. That said perhaps it’s not the worst ideal to save a few bucks and get the generic/vehicle specific valving and maybe spend a little more having someone local dial them in just right. If this is not an option and it might not be for a lot of people, perhaps the over the phone thing is the only choice, I'd just confirm the “custom valving” is actually being done if paying more for this.

*Aftermarket OE shocks are typically vehicle specific and not Generic. Generic valving would be for universal applications, i.e. FOX Factory Series 12” travel shocks. The two terms “generic” and “vehicle specific” should not be confused as the valving is very much different between them.

Gabrial and Monroe make shocks that are rebranded for/by other "brands". Those two make 75% of the shocks on the market.
