Naw, I take I-90 all the way to Missoula, then north on 93 etc. Our place is in NW MT near Eureka.

 

I'm taking 'lil blue up there next time and leaving it so we have a truck to use. Then we can just take the 4Runner back and forth for better gas mileage. I've just been trailering stuff up there the last few trips and needed my fullsize. The old one was 21 years old and just needed replaced. Wife finally talked me into it.

 

Out of all the different ways you could get there, that one is the least interesting. I guess pulling a trailer it's probably best, boring, but best.

 

Indeed. It's usually just about getting there or back in the quickest fashion possible. We'll worry about exploring more when we're old and bored. As a matter of fact, from here to basically Billings(or back), is about the sleepiest part of the trip.

Yea, I know, I drive it all the time. I'm a school bus driver, I go all over the state every weekend. We have a good number of activity trips that go interesting places like over the Bighorns, but most go down I-90 and I-25.

No worries, just kidding around. Seriously though, don't wait until you are old to explore. A different route may take a little longer, but the trip will be a lot more memorable.

 

We do every year. Next summer we'll take a more scenic route. Until I get the cabin totally done, It'll have to be fly trips though. Time management.

 

No you can't. The 4runner uses different outer tie rods. The holes are different sizes. 4runners are a lot smaller. Like 17mm vs 22mm on the tacoma or something like that.

Also camelback can get you both for around 185 shipped I think.

 

4runner OTRE are straight. Tacoma ones are bent as in they have some angle in them.

I know the rack is the same and so are the ITRE. So you would just have to do the LBJ and OTRE

 

Ball joints at Camelback are cheaper, and the same price both sides...

These part numbers come with bolts as well...

Prices and part numbers are different for the '01 and newer Tacomas.

 

IIRC, for my '02, one side was ~$100 and the other side was ~$110. Bolts do not come with ours.

 

The LBJ themselves are the same. Just pick if you want bolts or not.

Id get new bolts every time.

 

Well with the two photos above one is listed as a 4WD one and one is a W/O prerunner. Get the 4wd. Call it a day.

 

Those cheaper ones must be for a 5 lug.

I ordered new LBJs this spring from camelback and they were like $110/piece.

Speaking of which, I need to follow up with them about a warranty as one of them already has some play in it.

 

The correct part number for my year truck does not come with bolts.

Were the bolts you got with the joints flanged?

 

I ordered 8 bolts as well when I got mine; so now I have 8 extra flanged bolts. (The part numbers above are what I ordered and just installed two weeks ago.)

When you're looking at prices, the ~$60 ones are for 5-lugs. You can tell by the picture of the suspension on this page (#9 in the second diagram)

Yes, Monte and Mike are both right here. Actually, there's an interesting distinction between 98-00 and 01-04 that you should be aware of, and affects the bolts you use.

• 98-00 LBJs DON'T have a rubber skirt that covers the LCA where it connects to the LBJ. Since the bolts contact the LBJ directly (and thread into the spindle), they use a flanged bolt.

• 01-04 LBJs HAVE a rubber skirt that covers the LCA where it connects to the LBJ. The bolts push up through the skirt, then the LBJ, then into the spindle. Because of the rubber skirt, these bolts have a washer on them (so as you tighten them, you don't tear the skirt). You could of course use the flanged bolts too, but you'd probably want to remove the rubber skirt.

In looking at your truck, I'm not sure if you have the rubber skirts anymore (here's a pic from our recent idaho trip). If you don't, you can use the flanged bolts, in which case, my part numbers above fit and come with bolts.
