I stumbled on the AT3 XLT last week.. I really like this tire. I know Overland Journal gave the AT3 a high rating a few years back.

Currently, I am running Toyo AT II Extremes. They have really last beyond my expectations, but they are somewhat hard and you can really feel the difference on paved roads vs. the BFG KO2 TAs. Which I have also had.

What I like about the AT3 XLT is side wall and for a 296/75/16 the weight is 57-58lbs vs. Toyos AT II Extreme 64lbs vs. BFG KO2 TA 61lbs.

My question is ride quality/quietness and how they last. I know it is subjective but any thoughts would be appreciated.

 

I don't have personal experience with the revised AT3 line just yet, but quietness should be on par with the previous generation AT3 (which is mostly positive) given the fact that tread design is about the same.

Ride quality should be a little better when compared to your current tires due to the carcass construction. If I'm not mistaken the AT-II Extreme version uses a 3-ply sidewall construction whereas the AT3 XLT uses 2-ply. There is a trade-off with that of course, less material built into the sidewall means it may not be as durable in harsh off-road terrain such as rock crawling. For the typical weekend warrior, though, the 2-ply sidewall should be just fine.

It does help a bunch. Side wall is usually not my nemesis. I try to place that tire in a good spot most of the time and we are doing more Overlanding and less rock crawling in general.. Your comments also help, in that even when aired down to 20 psi the Toyo's hardly bulged. So I am thinking the 2 ply might bulge slightly more when aired down and that might help with ride comfort off road also.

 

I am hoping for a rebate of some sort from Cooper. The last one just expired Sat. And was not for the AT3s.. So hoping for a rebate in the next few days to pop up. I also called my local DT location, they will price match for me on the AT3 XLTs, so my $$ stay with DT, again..

 

Just got off the phone with Cooper. Rebate coming October 1. $70.00! Whohoo! Great timing for new tires right before winter hits!

So if I get the c-rated version, or LT, is it 6 ply?

 

I wish I had a DT in my town I have to drive 1 hour and 40 minutes away!!!

 

The C rated LT tires have a 6 ply rating.

 

Anyone with experience on the XLT, on whether they’re hard to balance or require a lot of weight? I did a test fit and I really like the tire but before I purchase all of them I want to check

I had the ATP's (similar to AT3) on both my 99 and 03 prerunner Tacomas and both set performed well beyond the off road limitations of the drive train on those trucks. My only complaint was the road noise between 45-65mph.

I currently have the AT3xlt's on my 06 Tundra and I have no complaints. They are quiet, look great and so far have performed great on and off road.
