After a lot of research and changing my mind I finally pulled the trigger. Thursday I picked up my new 2018 MGM OR 4x4. I drove straight from the dealership to Lake Como Road, which is known as one of the worst roads in Colorado.

I've never owned a 4WD vehicle, and I have never bought a new car. All I can say is HOLY SHIT! This truck charged up a nasty road like it was absolutely nothing. I didn't drive all the way up to Lake Como, I don't think any stock vehicle could make it all the way up. I parked about 4 miles short of the lake, could have gone farther but didn't want to risk doing any damage, especially on the first day I owned it.

Thursday night I camped at Lake Como and climbed Little Bear Peak, which is the 2nd hardest 14er in Colorado, then moved camp up to Crater Lake Friday night and climbed Mt. Blanca and Ellingwood Point on Saturday. From there drove over to the Mt. Lindsey trailhead and climbed that yesterday.

So first weekend with the new truck involved testing it on some tough roads and climbing 4 14ers!

This site and community was super helpful in my decision making, so thanks!

So far, the only modification is the new grill. I have some additional mods I want to make listed below, nothing too crazy. I would like to add some clearance, it sounds like larger tires are the only way to make that happen. Stock tires are 265/70/16, debating if I want to just go with the largest I can fit without any lift/cutting or go bigger. It sounds like the largest I can fit without mods is 265/75/16, correct?

I will be taking this truck into the mountains A LOT, both in summer and winter.

    Planned mods
    Ray 10 gunmetal 16's
    Tires? Maybe lift?
    Rock Sliders
Tonneau cover (ordered Extang Solid Fold 2.0)
    Leather seats with heated front
Upgrade head unit and speakers (low priority)

You’ve made a great purchase. Enjoy it for years to come!

Yes, 265/75/16 is the largest tire you can run w/o modifications.

Interesting, it looks like that would add more clearance than the 265/75/16 option. Any drawbacks to having a more narrow tire?

You bought a very capable truck and used it for the purpose it was built for.

My first suspension and tire upgrades (just recently) were 265/75/16 Falken Wildpeak AT3W and Bilstein 5100's on all four with the fronts set at 1.1".

I suggest these two upgrades first that are budget friendly (I paid $367 shipped for tires and $297 shipped for the Bilstein on eBay), it made a world of a difference to me and it made for an even better daily driver. No tire noise, no harsh or jarring bumps..

Just a smoother ride and a new appreciation for the truck.

255/85s are 33s vs the 265/75s 32s (approx.) Would provide you with 0.5” more clearance. Also less rolling resistance, which would equal a minute increase in MPGs. Drawbacks are less traction due to smaller contact patch in most situations.

How do 5100s compare to the stock OR Bilsteins?

Do you have these on your truck? Doesn't look like there are a ton of options in that size, but Cooper ST Maxx is available.
