nope, I think people are pumping it before earnings. I would expect there to be very little change in price after earnings come out since it will be "priced in"... it looks like it bottomed out around 2.00... which isn't too bad. I would expect it to rise some more and then it will fall gradually again until the next earnings are coming up. It seems like they're really trying to be fiscally responsible and a lot of day traders are taking advantage of the low volume. Not bad if you're still holding though. If they report good earnings again I may buy back in and hold long term. Kinda done with day trading and trying to time swings.

I think the transaction costs make trading not worth it. I have been holding SPY, which I intend to continue to do for a long time, and I’ve been pretty happy with where it’s gone lately.

yeah, I don't pay any fees for trading since I'm on robinhood, but day trading is taxed at income tax levels instead of 10-15% (can't remember which)... have to hold a minimum of a year to get the tax break. And I can't write off losses on stocks if I sell/repurchase within 30 days (a wash sale).

One thing I'm not sure of about "wash sales" is that if I sell 1000 shares at a loss, and then within 30 days I buy 100 shares, does that mean I can't write off 900 shares, or I can't write off any of the losses?

I think you can write off the 900 shares. I have read that you can also specify “which” shares you sold in a way that benefits you (i.e. the oldest or newest from your date of purchase), but I don’t know how you do that. It would probably get complicated at tax time.

Anyone know of some good dividend stocks? I picked up a few shares of GOV, they've got a dividend of 10-11% per year.

Check out CIM. Also, the market broke through its January high today, hope that signals some more climbing.

yep we've had a great bull run, breaking into records again.

    Question:
I know max yearly contributions are $5,500,
    and regular contributions are $18,500.

So does this mean a person can sock away $24,000 total in tax break-ish plans per year?

I’m assuming you mean IRA and 401k. But yes, those are the yearly contribution limits if you are under 50 years old. After 50 you can contribute an additional $6,000 per year.

Also it’s good to remember that those are the limits for your contributions only, any employer match or contribution does not count against those limits. There’s rules for how much they can contribute as well, I think something like your contributions plus employers contributions is $55k a year or 100% of your salary, whichever is less.

If you make good money and have a good employer match program you can build a solid portfolio starting at age 50.

401k is VIIIX... my holdings before were about 40% foreign, which is doing badly. Glad it's in American stocks only. As for other stuff, I'm just going to start average costing by putting a little in at a time, same as my 401k except I hand pick a few stocks.

I just bought a big chunk of AAPL, I intend to hold and possibly add to it. Anybody have any opinions on this company in 10, 20 years? I tend to think they will only grow stronger, but that’s a long time, never know.
