Morning all! Happy Monday of a six day work week... :pccoffee:

No worries; sorry it took me longer than expected to get there. I was making good time on 111, and then I hit Route 1 and BAM! Traffic.

Morning! Weekend was awesome! I was off for a 4 day weekend, my birthday was Thursday so I had a bunch of friends up to the house in Maine on Barters Island. We had a hell of a time. Did some fishing on Thursday, Friday we just hung around and went to dinner, Saturday was a little rainy so we went to downtown Boothbay and the girls did some shopping while the guys did some drinking. Went to Glidden Point and bought 50 Damariscotta Oysters which in my opinion are the best on earth, I get them whenever I am in Boothbay. Yesterday was gorgeous so we all went for a cruise on the boat. Probably went by Noels in-laws camp as we circumnavigated Westport Island. Then battled nasty traffic on the way south. Stopped in Freeport to buy a new striper fishing fly rod at Orvis and went to Johnny Rockets to close out the weekend. Just an awesome birthday weekend.

Those things are expensive for what you get. I'd rather have a camper like mine, more space, similar weight, half the price.

Glad you had a good time!
You probably did see it, but wouldn't have been looking for it. They're about 2 miles south of the boat launches on the back river side of the island. The camp itself is pretty run-down, but it sits right on top of the water so it's worth it just for the footprint. Has a covered (white-painted canvas over a metal frame) boat slip right on the rocks that sticks out over the water a little bit at high tide.

This has been my weekend so far. Weather turned out great. Heading back from Maine in about a hour probably.

They're like low $20k and up. They're supposedly a little more rugged than other comparable campers which I guess is what you're really getting. If it's just going to be used as a traditional camper though, they have a lot of trade offs. The inside being odd shaped and small because of the dome is probably the biggest of which. They're supposed to be a solid camper though.

So I had a fun experience with the boat last night. Got a picnic dinner all packed, got changed into our swimsuits, and put in at one of the local launches. Found a spot and parked the truck and trailer, and headed out onto the lake. Not more than 300 feet from the boat launch the motor bogs, sputters and dies. Fire it back up, open the throttle back up and go about 20 feet and it sputters and dies. So I check everything easy (vent valve on the tank, primer bulb, disconnect the fuel line and make sure it's got flow, tilt the motor up and check the lines under the cowl for kinks/leaks, etc) and can't find what's wrong. So we limp back to the dock with the throttle cracked just enough to engage forward gear, reload onto the trailer and head home. Get back and I pull the whole fuel system apart and can't find anything wrong. Pump pumps, filter has some trash in it that I cleaned out but still lets flow through, nothing. So I pull the carbs (anybody who's tinkered on a Merc outboard knows that pulling the carbs is a real bitch) and only the lower one has fuel in the bowl. Aha, we're on to something now...
So I bring them into the garage and strip them apart on the bench. No obstructions in the fuel line, floats are good, needle is clean and in good shape, but even with everything stripped out I can barely blow any air into the carb through the line. So I grab the blow gun from the compressor and stuff it down into the needle port in the bowl and give it a blast (reversing the normal direction of flow). Out shoots a piece of paper through the intake line. Tiny little piece, maybe 1/16 of an inch. But apparently it was enough to clog the needle and starve the upper carb.
So I put everything back together and tore the fuel pump apart, and sure enough one of the little valves inside was missing a piece of its gasket. So I've got a fuel pump kit on order. Glad that it was something minor like that, but annoyed that a tiny little scrap of gasket paper was enough to ruin our afternoon on the water. Also glad that Mercury used a common intake on this motor, so sucking on just one carb didn't burn up a piston.

And I guess also glad that I did the diagnosis and work myself. This way it's just costing me a $7 pump rebuild kit rather than $1000 at the local marina

Speaking of boats. He's some pictures of my BIL's bass boat. This thing is an animal! He was doing 35 and then put the hammer down and that thing still pulls you back. We hit about 64 mph but I guess if its really smooth out and he can stay in it, it will get to about 70.

No electric motor on your boat? I can't live without an electric motor. Nice to know that you have a backup. I have three motors on my boat!

The carbs on my 150 Merc are wicked easy to get out and work on. Well, relatively. But that same issue you had probably would have resulted in a powerhead rebuild for me. The high horsepower motors burn down real quick.

You can buy a Tacoma for what that motor cost alone!
