You don’t need a proportional valve with 4 wheel discs. Only with front disc rear drums....

 

Unless you wanted to reduce pressure to the rear 0.0

Can't destroy what you haven't yet earned.

 

1. They are there for a reason. Truck stops just fine with them on.

2. No issues with the A/T. Transmission works just fine.

3. Who cares? If you donk like it, dont buy it.

 

One thing wrong with them is, I suck at working on drum brakes. Discs are easy. I should sit down and learn, but the things last 200k miles, so I'm not going to bother. Stopping distance, brake performance is no different than a 4Runner or other trucks with disc brakes all around.

 

If anything, my brakes are too sensitive with the brake booster. Although, I have to say the garbage Toyota tried to feed us about drums being better off-road. Ok, no rocks get caught in the pads, but that was pretty lame.

 

That's not the truck's fault lol. My first vehicle had drums all around, no power steering or brakes. I quickly learned how to work on drum brakes.
Drums on all four corners suck. Drums on the rear of a pickup truck is fine.
I have no clue why Toyota is using them on the Tacoma though. I doubt seriously that the price is the reason. Better off road? I question that too. Longevity? Definitely. Who knows why. It's a quirk, sorta like that freckle or mole.

 

Actually there is some basis for this. For heavy dirt/mud with rocks, a rock can be picked up by the inside of the tire/wheel and carried up to smack the caliper damaging it or forcibly removing it.

I had a Unimog with 4 wheel drums that stopped well. Mercedes kept 4 wheel drums as an option for quite a few years for farmers and the mining industry for the reason above.

I had 4 wheel drums before too, they sucked, I always remember having to road test and readjust the fronts to keep it from pulling to one side or the other.

 

At least I didn't tell him to buy a Ridgeline!

 

The only reason is because it's cheaper. Period.
