Just dropped off my truck for an oil change and told the service dude about a 40-50mph surge. Explained that there was a tsb that said it was for automatics but is for manuals.

Young dude so seemed to get it. Downside is I just filled up with 91 on thurs.

Thanks for the info! Does this fix the lag time after a shift before throttle comes back on? Thats only the real issue I have with my MT and ovtune.

First of, update definitely improves the City Driving aspect of the truck, its what i would've expected it to be from Day 1.

Just like everyone else that has gotten it, am quite happy with the improvements, the love for my truck has been "rekindled"... ; )

    Soooooooo...

For those that have done the update... Have you folks gone up mountain passes? Any difference on your end?

Over the weekend took a short trip up the local mountain range, and on the uphill portions I noticed I'd need to downshift to 3rd in order to get enough engine power to overpass another car that'd be going 55... at which point my truck's engine would be SCREAMING.

I didn't have to downshift due to engine bogging down, just had to down shift in order to get enough *oomph* to overtake a car. Otherwise truck would happily climb at 55 on 4th...

I know before the update, i'd be on 5th, then it'd bog down going uphill, drop it to 4th, and "take off", and truck would have more than enough *oomph* to overtake any car going 55.

Not necessarily complaining, just wondering if anybody else noticed that, or if its just my imagination.

Which I can see it being the case if they distributed the power more "evenly" across the RPM range, at which point the "Top End" would be *MEH*...

This is def. interesting and a bit concerning. I drive through mountains all the time. I have always had plenty of power to pass going up hill at 75 mph. 4 th gear is my friend on any incline. So you are saying you are having a hard time going uphill with any power in 4th??

What I notice on mine is that the power is less peaky. That 2 stroke like surge at 4-5k rpm has been smoothed out. I kind of liked that surge lol. It feels less "violent" now so maybe to some that can feel slower?
It feels like a flatter power curve now.

City driveability is 1000× better now. MPG have remained the same. I just did 19.5 mpg on a mostly highway drive at 70-75mph with 95 degree temperatures. Maybe those ambient temps can also make anything feel slower if that was also your case. Hot and high is terrible for any normally aspirated engine.

For overtaking cars where you need faster acceleration, 3rd gear sounds about right. Especially when higher elevation plays a part. These trucks make all their power in high rpms. I use 4th for regular passes/climbs and 3rd for passing as well. If you watch towing test on our trucks in high elevation passes, the trucks go down to 2nd gear and hover near red line. I’ve experienced same power delivery with lower CC motorcycles I’ve owned. Sure on paper the bikes had nearly as much hp as some of my bigger thumpers but produced it way differently. On passes on my bike I rode 2/3 when I could be in 5th on my bigger bike. I highly doubt this update reduces power in any capacity.

Yeah I'd look for a different dealer. The chimes talk is funny, the seatbelt they should be able to turn off. I hate when employees say stuff like "I wish I could so I can get paid", dude is getting paid regardless of if he is in the shop or sits on the can for an hour lol.

When I was a tech for a Toyota dealership we only got payed for the work we flagged, everything was flat rate and billed out accordingly.

Most dealers won't turn the seat belt chime off. It's a safety feature and technically can be a liability concern if you or a passenger were to go through the glass.

It shouldn't be difficult to make a legal form to sign to cover themselves in this case. They have 6 million other forms to cover their asses for everything else. That is not really a "good" reason to not do it.

Obviously you've never been forced to settle a large class action suit for floor mats.
