How much better? How much faster would a Tacoma stop with them? I would like to see the scientific study on that. I don't doubt it, but if it is .2 inches better, I don't care.

We don't know but they are better. Tell me this what new model vehicles are equipped with rear drums?

I don't care. I care that the vehicle I bought stops properly, which it does. And as I said already "4 wheel disc brakes" sells. Beyond that I would like to see a study of how much better a Tacoma can stop with 4 disc. Until that time, this really is a dead horse. It is almost as old as drum brakes that people complain about them being on the Tacoma.

It is cheap that Toyota puts them on a $40k vehicle. I can see them on a base model five lug truck with a 4 cylinder but not on a trd...even the Pro has rear drums! Smh

You say that with such authority lol. I absolutely can argue the facts. However, the one key advantage that discs have over drums is brake fade. I wouldn't buy a vehicle with drums on all corners, however, the disc/drum setup is perfectly adequate for the Tacoma. Brakes are designed to do one thing... slow down a vehicle. If both methods work adequately, stop in the same distance, provide proper modulation and do not fade, how can you say one is "better?" Now we go to brake pad/shoe life. Drums win. Brake protection. Drums win.
I'm still looking for an advantage here on why there should be discs on the rear of our truck, help me out. Remember this is a light duty on/off road pickup truck application, not a race car.

Technically he is right, discs are better than drums. Generally speaking.

Drums give 5.67% more of the desired effect according to my buddy at NASA.

No denying that rear drums stop tacomas adequately folks but don't let somebody tell you they are better than disk brakes because they are not.

Would the Tacoma stop better with 4 discs? Yes they would.

My point being there is only one reason why tacomas have rear drums.

depends if they put small shitty discs in the rear to keep the costs the same then no it probably wouldn't make a difference.

Someone asked about new vehicles being sold with drum brakes...how 'bout most every medium duty and heavy duty truck? All those semi's on the road are running drums at every wheel.

Having said that, discs are generally better for the public at large.

Again due to cost savings, in europe more stringent regulations the large trucks run discs
