Octane rating refers to the the "ease of combustion" of a fuel. High octanes are run in high compression engines or those with forced induction to prevent pre-detination or knocking. If you run the 91 OV tune on 87 does the engine knock? I'd have a hard time believing it would since the tune does not change the compression of the air-fuel mixture. Can someone more knowledgeable about OV tune explain?

Ignition timings are retarded to compensate for fuel quality, also the faux Atkinson cycle comes into play and the VVTi. Engines are not as simple as suck squeeze bang blow anymore.

Tighter ignition timings = higher fuel requirements.

By that logic, they probably shouldn't have in the manual that a dealer can do it then.

And the dealers didn't have the lawsuit, Toyota did, who printer said manual.

 That was my biggest complaint about the original stock tune.

I have to complain about this. I am relearning to drive this thing. After almost a year of being so careful with each shift, the new tune is trying to tell me to chill.

I still feel that MPGs are the same. Rev hang is completely different. While not gone it is what I would call natural. Downshifts now require more of a blip.

It. Should. Have. Came. This. Way!

I showed the service advisor these 5 pics and told him about the surge at 40-50 mph. Told him to hook it up to do a health check.

He shut me down twice but was willing to listen. Picking her up now

First to second has no buckling. Second to third same. Power delivery is smooth. Kinda miss the jerking.

    Mostly stuff I built.
The TechStream calibration program prompts you what to do each and every step of the way. Even tells you the hood should be open.

Yeah, 4th would hold speed and not bog down, but it woudnt rev up, go faster at any reasonable rate to pass someone without playing chicken with oncoming traffic.

I will need to try another nearby mountain pass, and compare...

I guess its one of those things that you gotta give something up, to get an improvement somewhere else...

I want it off the passenger seat, because my Boxer trips the scale and the fucking chime annoys the hell out of me. Almost as bad as the reverse chime...why the hell do they feel the need to have a reverse chime.
I'm going to another dealer...will tell them they have a service customer for life if they update my ECU....they hate the competing dealer I took my truck to first, so it should work like a charm.

Maybe the guy that bricked his ECU was like 'psh why should I pop the hood, that's dumb'
