Alot of people want to see you face to face , this happened to a friend of mine once. He went to Florida to pick up a Satoshi grill from a guy and when the guy said " Take a look ,it's in the corner of my garage" , my friend looked away -toward the grill and the guy jumped on his back! , bit off he upper part of my friends left ear and choked my friend out! When he finally woke up , he was sitting at the Tallahasee City jail , facing tresspassing charges and when he got his truck out of impound -HIS grill was missing......so he came back with a missing grill and part of an ear gone......

    By the way ---I'm kidding

I sold my CBI bumper and shipped it from Texas to California. I had offered it as "local pickup only" but the buyer offered to pay me up front and cover the shipping. All was fine up until the freight company lost it for 3 weeks.

As the seller I was stressed because now I have his money and I cannot deliver the bumper. What if the freight company lost the bumper, do I send him his money back and it is my loss? Or do I keep the money and it is his loss? The buyer was very patient with me but it took both of us calling the freight company several times to finally track it down.

It took several hours of my time that I could not bill for or charge the buyer.

The other time I shipped a set of wheels from Texas to Rhode Island. The UPS store clerk bitched at me about the shipping cartons I was using and kept trying to get me to buy different boxes that were "more secure". But the boxes I was using were the same boxes that Toyota had used to ship wheels to me by UPS.

To summarize my stories - Shipping is a pain in the @&&.

I've sold and bought tons of things over the net and the issue I run into sometimes is that pictures over the net can only represent a product so far. Some items are a PITA to pack or keep from getting damaged. With the bigger items, I've had issue getting them picked up or had the price for shipping change once I drop it off. These can be deal breakers and honestly, not worth the time in all instances.

Trust me though, I feel your pain. I almost wish there was a way to filter out the "local pickup" outside of my area just so I don't wind up yelling at the computer "damnit! that's exactly what I want but it's in California!"

now i can understand someone telling you no when it comes to that. have you ever gotten those craigslist responses saying "i want your item, please take it off CL so i can get it. i'll pay your asking price sight unseen and i'll even have my movers come pick it up. Just give me some info so i can get the ball moving". thats obviously a scam. now i'm sure your legit, but your offer is too similar to many of hte scams running around the net these days. i've got a set of rims i'd like to sell but if someone said they'd send a truck to come pick them up id tell him not to bother, assuming it was some sort of scam

yeah, those are just a few of hte reasons i refuse to ship. one reason is i dont have a paypal account and dont want one, i deal with cash only with personal transactions. plus, shipping big stuff is a pain in the ass. not worth my time unless i'm the buyer is willing to pay me an extra hunderd or so for my trouble. personally, my time is worth more to me than money, so it'd be hard to get me to take the time to do something like that

I think you would be extremely surprised at how many people DO NOT understand how to ship.
Some would rather wait 2+ hours, exchange a ton of emails setting up a time to meet, and countless phone calls rather than taking 30 minutes that it takes to ship something.
    Just saying.

If it only takes 30 minutes for you to ship something like a bumper or a step tube, you're a pro or something. Christ, I shipped a magazine pouch for a 1911 this morning and had it not fit in the mailbox that alone would have taken me more than 30 minutes. As it is it took me damn near 30.

    back to bone stock.
i hate shipping. i just sent some friggen porsche wheels to NYC. between the time searching the best rates, finding boxes, and standing in line..i was done! the money exchange is much much simpler, when you hand the goods over, and the buyer hands you cash..add the complete paypal nightmare(every moves feels like a potential identity theft invite) ..i almost rolled the wheels into the bushes.

for great products..offer up a shipper fee? i once bought an item for a cross country friend. he paid, i picked it up and shipped it. i got a great bottle of wine for my troubles.

If the item can be shipped for reasonable charges and isn't so huge as to be a hassle to get it packaged up I can see the point. But a lot of things it ends up not being worth the shipping regardless of who is paying for it. I have a sub and box I want to get rid of from my old car and don't even want a whole lot for it however it's a huge heavy box so I'd never bother shipping it, too much of a hassle.

I've seen a few things here before I wanted but were local pick up only. I just move on, eventually something will pop up. Kinda retarded IMO to complain about it. It's their choice. I understand the frustration in finding a good deal, but still.

I hate to ship anything bigger than the size of a book basically. It is just to much of a hassle for me.

Yes and no. The OP in that thread forgot the cardinal rule of dealing on the internet: Trust, but verify.

He should have gotten a certified payment, or gone right to the bank the check was written on and cashed it, or deposited the check and waited for it to clear before he shipped, etc.
