We got ours right around Thanksgiving. I thought, I'll never do this again this time of the year as it's 5 degrees outside and I'm waiting for him to go to the bathroom. However, there was a giant parvo outbreak in our area so the vets were recommending no public places until all shots were in effect. Much easier to stay inside when the weather is bad. I couldn't imagine if we waited until spring and still had to keep him from going on walks on nice days because of the threat of parvo. I honestly don't know if there is a perfect time to get one. They're a ton of work for the first few months, but then everything gets figured out and you'd do it all again in a second. Good luck!

I got a new pup in the late fall one year that we had lots of snow. The snow was deeper than the pup was tall, so it would relieve itself on the shoveled walkway. Come spring, even though the snow was gone, it would still go on the walkway.

Considering those circumstances it worked out perfect for you!
I'm sure those more experienced with both having numerous pups over time AND dealing with extreme seasons would give a better idea when is the right time..
Thanks! less luck, more patience.. lol

imho it looks like you do not need to be a dog owner, especial an owner of a weimeraner. fake grass??? come on. the dog deserves better.

oh no, understandable. Not a weimie lol
Ya, just a place to make a mess if need be, and NO, not a kennel, there will be no gate to keep it separate from us or freedom of the yard.

The idea is maintenance freedom too.

Best thing a owner can do about pee spots is have water handy to spray after your dog does his business. Fresh water dilutes the urine keeping your grass alive and smell away. I even have a few jugs just for that purpose. Pour over the spot and you are good to go.

We have a very consistent schedule. I have found the first one of the day does the worst damage to the yard. Since we wake up consistently at 6:00 The dog has gone by 6:10 almost every day. I set it up so the area he always goes, the sprinkler kicks on at 6:15. It drastically reduced the pee spots in the yard. Still have them, but it's not nearly as bad as it was before I started doing that.

Im curious of peoples experience with the fake grass.. My intensions with this space is no mowing, no weeds, no leaves, no digging, no burn lasting issues with elimination.. i hear it retains heat but it will be in the shade all day.
They have a "sand" like product you poor over the grass thats specific for dogs to kill any odor as well. Not interested in that tho.

Better way is to teach the dog to the bathroom on command.

He chews on a Galileo bone constantly. I'm sure it's what is keeping them so clean.

My mom has the pet friendly turf in her backyard and it’s amazing. If I could afford it I would do my entire backyard in a heart beat. Hose it down once a week or just where the dog craps and your golden. Down side is I think it’s a 20 year life span so you have to redo it. She’s had it for 4 years now and looks the same as the first day of install. Lost of dust during install. They leveled, then packed the shit out of it. Then laid some type of material, then laid the turf then used a machine to press in a powder, which I think is for dog poop and urine. That powder got everywhere. But after the first week it was gone.

Honestly though like I said if I could afford it I wouldn’t think twice.
