Welcome to the neighborhood. Don't worry you are going to find a lot of opportunities for wheeling aside from the slab. Go back about a hundred pages in this thread and start perusing.

Ran into a Tacoma again going south on 231 who turned on Hobbs behind me and then turned on Chaney Thompson. He had a lift, looked like 33 or 34” skinnies, Arb front bumper with winch, Thule roof rack. Tried to get him to pull into the church parking lot to see if he was using it, but he may not have gotten my hint.

Anyways, if your here, speak up.

Thanks for the info. Trying to push myself into studying for the test but too many things to do before Colorado trip in October. Plus I'm frickin lazy which don't help.

Did the video of Matt climbing that hill not turn out to be usable?

Also, the whole top of my hand is still swollen, red, and sore from something I didn't even see biting/stinging me while getting a stick for that first puddle. Wonder what that could have been...

It's not as bad as you probably think. Just gotta sit down for a couple hours to read through all the questions. Take a couple more to go through the flash cards, and maybe a couple practice tests to make sure you got it before dropping the $15 on the test. hamstudy.org is the idiot-proof place to study. Apparently 5 year old's can do it. I'm sure you won't have a problem :)

Awesome. I’ll probably go with the shorter antenna since it’ll primarily be for trail use. Speaking of which, look what I got to finally play with.

Nice! Gotta get that license quick so we can range test them on simplex. I can hit Monte Sano repeater on 147.220 no problem with included antenna. 147.00 repeater in Decatur has a ton of traffic I can pick up usually, but we're probably not going to hit that without a big high mounted antenna + amplifier..
Should get my 771 antenna and programming cable tomorrow too :D

Edit: wait, 147.22 isn't Monte Sano, it's botanical gardens...
Edit2: Hmm, it appears to be both. I can't tell for sure which one I was talking on now lol.

Edit 3: Also, do you think a short antenna on the roof, or longer antenna mounted on bed would be better? Can't find a lot right now about the effect of different mounting locations..

    Lots of sail boat fuel
Roof works best. There's this whole deal about a "ground plane" ie a flat metal surface to help transmit. You can get them for about $30
