^ LOL. I'm not a fan of the Calv Blue as I love the Cement or Quicksand. I'd rather buy an SR5 Quicksand and build it up:)

Under 40K for a Brand New Calv Pro? That would be something I'd consider and because they sound desperate to unload it, I'd haggle even more. However I find the other colors more appealing to me.

Do as you wish. Don't let anyone stop you, but MSRP is not a good deal. Do some homework. Shop around and be patient. If you were in Houston, id buy the truck and sell it to you at your price for profit.

I had a Barcelona Red 2017 down to $39.9k before I decided that was too much money for something that wouldn't see much use off road.

I wanted to purchase an off road 4x4 in cement grey. I went into the Thousand Oaks California dealership to ask about it. The salesmen said they would not lower the MSRP (around 39k) price because of the colors demand. The salesmen said that people were willing to buy that truck in that color at sticker price. They didn't even give me the time of day. What do you guys think? after all the fees the 39k truck will end up running at around 43k if not 44k. This dealership playing me? Any possibilities of any other dealership willing to negotiate?

Don’t give them the time of day either. Shop around, out of state if you have to. Try internet sales, get it all hashed out where the only thing you gotta do is go in, sign, and drive.

Thank you! I’ll look into it!
I might have to settle for a different color. I really would want to, considering it’s a big purchase and I just wanted to get something I was truely happy with. But that price is outrages. Hopefully I find something soon! Thanks for the advice

Man... When I was 21 and a Corporal in the Marine Corps a $700ish dollar truck payment would have been a big chunk of my monthly income. I drove a $3500 POS that ran. I was gone all the time anyway.

In fact, I recently bought my Cement offroad for dealer cost and at $32k it's the most expensive vehicle I've ever bought and cost me slightly more than I was comfortable paying but oh well. It's a nice truck. Houses out here on the left coast are stupid expensive. The one across the street just listed for like $295k so the fact that I owe $80k less on mine puts a much bigger smile on my face than what color my truck is. ;)

I guess my take home is I'd never take on a truck payment that was more than 10 or 15% of my monthly income at the most.

You purchased your OR for 32k?! Wow that's amazing! What state are you in? And 295K for a house? You're lucky if you manage to get a decent apartment for that price in California.

I chiseled on the dealer. Honestly I've bought several cars over the last 5 or 6 years so they usually cut me a pretty good deal. I can always get them to play ball it cost. This time I talked them into waiving the destination fee.

Houses in this area are relatively expensive compared to the median income. I've lived in various parts of CA and you're absolutely right. While houses are much more expensive in the bay area, or parts of San Diego county, wages are also much higher on average. I'm in the Medford/Ashland area. My house is about 30 years old. If it was one of the new ones going in up the road it'd be 300sqft bigger and cost 100k more. I like my cute little house though. It's manageable.

Too bad the whole area is currently on fire.

Not in the military anymore (thank god), but yes they do. They get something called basic allowance housing (BAH). This is adjusted based on zip code. Cost of living is generally higher in California as opposed to Ohio.

    Thank you.

Still, I find it hard to believe a military service member can afford a $45k vehicle. Been thinking about this all day. I can not imagine any way it can work.

There are a few variables on how an individual in the military can afford a 45K car. For example:

    -Deployments are usually tax-free pay
-Rank (ex..Being an officer helps quite a bit)
    -Hazard Duty pay

From my experience when I was in, I've witnessed people fresh from basic training spend their whole pay check on a car that is worth 40K (this is on top of a 11% interest rate for the loan....). A lot of people that join the military aren't the brightest individuals.

And I pains me to believe that car dealer are aware of this.

Financing that thing will require an 8 year commitment to even have payments that handle. That makes him 29. 29 with nothing to start off with really bothers me.

As an ex military member, they can afford them because they literally have almost no bills or expenses. If they're in the barracks or dorms, they don't pay rent. They have a chow hall to feed them. They pay no utilities. They may have a phone bill, but almost no other regular expenses. They can easily afford the monthly payment if their other expenses aren't extremely extravagant. Once they move off base they get reimbursed for living expenses like housing. If he plays his cards right, he can make higher payments and avoid getting upside down in the loan, and guess what, he'll have a truck with good resale value paid off by the time he separates, IF he separates. Then he's open to trading for anything his heart desires.

Also if he's been in a couple years, he can get financing rates from USAA or Navy Fed for lower than you'd ever see any other 21 year old getting approved for.
