Dude. That wasn't my question or my point. With your undies bunched up that far I prolly can't get you to read my entire post so here goes:

Why hasn't anyone swapped ECU's with an earlier model year? 2011 ECU for my new truck is $789. What am I missing? It can't possibly be that easy to reliably delete this system with factory parts and a couple homemade block-off plates, right?

Easy way to check this is if you have a buddy with a 2010, 2011 Tacoma quickly put his ECU inside a 2012+ Tacoma and see if the pump turns on during start up.

I don't disagree with your last part of your post its just that you left a window open in your first sentence and the included link by using the all too familiar environmental crime angle. Well meaning perhaps, and that is what the rules read, but way too often it has become the refuge of those with an agenda.
I do not know if you have an agenda. However, since that was the opening of your post I merely took the opportunity to point out that one of the biggest environmental crimes to ever occur in this country was committed by the same people ostensibly in charge of preventing such. Perhaps tonight was not the best time for me to respond.
    Anyway, all is well

I would try the last year possible that didn’t have the air pump.

I used to have a 4runner and a guys engine blew. His 4runner was a 2006 but he got an engine from a 2008 4runner. Same engine right? When he installed the engine it didn’t start. With some toubleshooting the engine he installed the camshaft position sensor had 3 wires and his original had 2 wires. Long story story. He had to uninstall the engine and get the correct one.

I hear ya. Last fall I helped a buddy replace a motor in his wife's RAV4 2AZFE. He got a JDM Camry 2AZ and it didn't play well with the RAV4 ECU. I don't really wanna be the guinea pig here but after reading this entire thread, it does make a man think.

I'm a little sensitive, myself. After two years with thousands$$$ in emissions system troubles on our 2011 6.7L Powerstroke, leaving us to fend for ourselves in limp mode more than once, I sold that heap to buy another tried and true 1GR-FE equipped Tacoma to eventually replace our old '06. The first time I opened the hood while kicking the tires before purchase, I said "well that's different. Our 06 doesn't have that" in reference to the SAI system. Imagine my horror when I found this thread. After purchasing the truck.

    F$&*ing EPA.

So far, it hasn't really been a problem with '15 trucks.

I did just change to the Uni Filter, to be safe.

Thanks! I will be ordering a new filter and replacing it ASAP, my 15 only has 32K miles on it but I’d rather play it safe

That's because it wasn't stopping the pump on v6s

This post confuses me. Please elaborate. Thanks

Is the Uni Filter a dealer item? If so does anyone have a part number for it, or is it a autoparts store item?

Auto parts store, or mail order. K&N also makes crankcase filters that would work.

I can't believe what I'm reading....what a disaster....I posted a comment in another thread regarding the same topic...First of all I can't believe the patience that most of you guys have in dealing with Toyota's failures...and all of the time & effort in resolving a very complicated issue in my opinion with the potential occurrence even after you fix it.... Its like sitting on a time bomb waiting for it to go off....One story that never changes is the dealer's position for either throwing you out the door, or turning you upside down for thousands of $$$. As a retirement gift to myself, I bought new a 2014 - 4 cyl. access cab 4X4 A/T to be my final truck. Its mainly garaged and has about 3000 miles, No I don't use it in the winter as I'm concerned about the frame rust issue, and overall rust issues. I have always heard that noise under the hood after shut down, but never acted on finding out what it was...I know know...I often wondered why I have never heard that noise coming from another vehicles......Good question huh??? - I have a 98 Civic beater, that just keeps going and going and going.... ZERO issues, & I mean ZERO..... and here I buy a brand new Tacoma and I'm scared to death of it...Ifs its not the rotted frames, its this pump BS.... I am a car guy and can't believe how I under estimated Toyota's reliability....Limp mode??? What the hell is that? - I never had a car that did that, and the comments I'm reading here its like another walk in the park...Maybe I'll get a used pump, take it apart, then maybe a $$$ bypass kit, and I'll reset the computer, and I'll do it before or after work, maybe this weekend if I have time....Oh Amazon has a 1" filter, Is this what life about ? Wrenching yourself out, while corporate Toyota keeps getting fatter & fatter.... I just think its better to run the damn truck through Toyota's showroom window if it were realistic.... Perhaps its time to bail out while the getting is good, and go back to a 70 C10 with an inline 6, 3 speed standard......Then I could say with confidence...... "Lets go Places" !!!

Pictures are before, during, and after the swap. Notice the discoloration/degradation of the OEM filter. I am glad it had not caused me any problems yet.

Apparently OVtune can program a custom ECU tune and delete the software lines related to SAIS. It's not cheap but at least you get a little more HP and fuel economy from the tune, and some other improvements, vs buying a 2011 ECU or a new pump/valves or the expensive bypass kit.
