If I wanted a engine that big (for towing, etc.) I would buy a Tundra. I like that the Tacoma comes with an engine that is big enough to be fast and get you where you want to go (4x4), yet is small enough to still get good gas mileage. Just my two cents.

Every time a dodge dakota v-8 with an aftermarket exhaust rumbles by I wish my truck had a v-8. If you could make the v-6 sound just like it, I would be happy. Give us the 4.7.

    .

    I would love a 4.7 V8 (about the size of the old Chevy 283) and I would S/C that baby ... a 5.7 S/Ced would even be better ... :D

...while I am a big proponent of a V8 in the Tacoma, the 5.7L is just silly for a truck this size.

The ass end is too light for that much power, you'd spend most of your time breaking the wheels loose and ruining your tires unless you always kept a few hundred pounds in the bed or swapped the transmission.

On top of that, there's a very real possibility you'd wreck your drivetrain prematurely with the 5.7L. The Taco's current components can handle the 4.7L or 4.6L without undue stress (our transmission is/was used with several Toyota 4.7L powered vehicles), but the 5.7L would twist it apart.

Exactly. I think these are things most people overlook when they think how awesome it would be to have a 5.7 in a Tacoma. It would be incredibly front-end heavy, and would absolutely trash every other component. Now, the 4.6 would be doable.

The V-8 4.7L is a weak motor. It can't handle much of anything besides the stock power it creates. The 1gr is easily able to be boosted and can handle powers up to around 500hp if done properly.

it'd be awesome though. 3400 lb truck with the 5.7...supercharge that thing and your set.

sure it be a tad bit undrivable, but who gives a fuck :D

SEMA , put a 4.7 V8 in a Tacoma...it was NICE....I have Both a 2005 4Runner all wheel drive with the 4.7 & I tell you it gets down the road for 4300 pounds..Its got a K&N Cold air & Borla cat back. I wish the TAcoma had the same but if Toyota for some reason puts a V8 in the Tacoma for 2011 I will trade both of them in for that....LOL
