BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2

What kind of tread life are you guys getting out of these? Picking up a set of 255/75/17's for $175 each. I think it's a pretty good deal!

How many miles are you guys getting out of your KO2's?

 

Where are the pics of guys with 295s... Everyone is running small tires.. C'mon people, let's push the envelope....

 

Do you have any more pics of your Wilco tire mount?

 

It's weird to me people saying these tires suck in rain. I live in BC and we get a ton of rain and I have never had a traction issue with these tires on paved surfaces.

Only time these tires have a tough time getting traction in my experience is in the mud, and that is to be expected from an all terrain.

 

I had these in a 285s on my taco first. Swapped them out for 295 Toyos.. no rubbing, no trimming. Time for new tires but I have been waffling on BFGs or Coopers in a 295.

 

Just got a set and drove them tonight in the rain. They gripped very well. However, mine are stock size - 245/75R-16. I like them a lot.

So I was checking out ko2s on @Discount Tire Direct and saw that they offer two different ones:
BFGoodrich all terrain A/T KO2 DT
BFGoodrich all terrain A/T KO2
Anyone know the difference? Does it matter which ones I should get?

So this got me curious and I started a chat with a rep on the BFG site. Apparently "DT" stands for "Different Tread" and they have a new updated tread compound. They claim the new compound will be more durable in off-road use. So far it is only available on a few sizes of tires. I'm guessing for a given size if there is a DT version in existence then the non-DT version is older stock. Sounds like to me if they are the same price at least BFG thinks the DT version is "better". On the other hand it probably also means the extensive reviews about the KO2 as far as tread wear and such going back the past few years don't really apply to the DT tires if they are using a different tread compound.

 

The DT is short for Different Tread. I'm not sure what exactly is different but I can tell you that this version does NOT carry the 3PMSF rating. If this rating is important to you, go with part number 10395 linked HERE

Interesting! BFG's website hasn't caught up with this (it shows 3PMSF in the top banner for KO2 despite listing some DT part numbers on the page and there is no specification field in their part number table on the site for 3PMSF). That sort of makes sense as good snow performance and good summer durability are at odds with each other as far as tread compounds go. I wonder if in making the tread more durable they couldn't get the 3PMSF rating.

FWIW they probably still have a M+S or M/S text on the sidewall somewhere? That's what CA and NV require to entire chain control areas on a 4WD vehicle without needing to put on chains - those two states at least don't care about the 3PMSF logo specifically.

Here are some additional details on the DT version...

The DT only applies to select heavy-duty LR-E fitments as outlined below. The change is in the rubber compounding to improve longevity and the DT version is back with a 50K mileage warranty.

It's important to note that the DT version does NOT carry the 3PMSF designation, however the M+S rating is maintained.

Bummer, I've been running older KOs and also had the original compound KO2. Wet traction, snow traction, basically anything even close to slippery has been way worse with the original KO which also has a hard, high mile compound. I hope the DT versions aren't as bad as the old KOs in those conditions, that would be a huge step backward.

I'm not sure how the DT version will fair in winter conditions just yet but what I do know is that in addition to the DT version, the original version will remain in production in the sizes noted above.
