5100s for 2016 3rd Gen Tacos

Anyone have any issues with the ecgs bushing and have to replace after a mild .85 lift in the front and nothing in the rear using the gen 2 or 3 bilsteins?

I have a 2017 Tacoma trd sport that is stock. I put 265 70R17 falkens and Fuel Trophy wheels. My last mod for a good long while I would like to upgrade the suspension. Like yall I dont absolutely love the factory rake and do plan to put a aluminum CBI T3 bumper with a light wench on the front. I would like to get the truck a little closer to level but not sure how to accomplish this and not invite problems to my suspension or truck. I dont offroad but do go on hunting and fishing trips where I get on dirt and trails but nothing crazy. Would bilstein 5100's all around set to 3 setting be all I need to accomplish my goal of getting almost level? Having enough support for a little heavier front bumper? Still have great ride characteristics?

Would that be the only thing I needed to purchase?

 

If you use 5100 on the 3rd setting with stock springs, while adding more weight up front, the ride is going to be super stiff. Id recommend 5100 with OME springs. This will support the extra weight and raise the front.

 

Any recommendations on springs to get? What kind of cost are we looking at

 

I believe OME 886 is what you would want to get.

 

2nd gen here... sorry for hijacking. I have a quick question based on what I have seen on here.

I have noticed a couple 3rd gens and set at 1.75 with 275/65r18s. I have not seen any 2nd gens with that setup, but it's exactly what I want. Is there anything different between the two trucks that allow the 3rds to fit these tires and the 2nds not to? If not, I am going shopping this weekend

 

Did you have to install a dif drop with the 5100's at 1.75?

 

None at all. Have had it this way for over 2 years now with no problems!

 

Does anybody have info on running the 5100's with stock springs on the 2" setting?

 

I just installed the bilstein 5100 in the front only, with stock springs on a 17' 4x4 double cab SR5, I put them on the 4th notch.. the truck drove horrible. Then I put them on the 2nd notch, drove a lot better but was still pretty rough. I'm going to be putting them on the 1st notch now, if it still drives rough i'll consider springs.. although I've heard that it's the struts that's just how they ride. Would the ome springs help? I don't have a bumper or anything to compensate for weight wise in the front. I need help, the wife is mad i've been working on truck for awhile and still drives really rough. These are the struts i bought BIL24-263108. Thank you!

Correction - I installed the spring seat upside down . No wonder at the 4th option the truck looked lifted 4 inches higher than the back. And the spring looked super compressed and rode incredibly rough. I'm going to flip the seat to face down, and keep it at the 2nd option.

 

Yea something is wrong. I'm no expert but I have the same shocks installed by a very reputable off road shop and I'm riding on the 4th setting. It rides amazing, better than the stock Sport shocks, handles better, no lean. I used the factory coils and that's what Bilstein did,intended to be used with the stock coils. I did a 1 inch rear block, ECGS clamshell bushing, 1/4 spacer on driver side for the lean and a front diff drop. I am super anal about the ride, no vibrations, squeaks,rattles or anything out of the ordinary. I just want to drive it all the time. I wish I did it the first week I got the truck. I don't get it when people say it rides harsher on the top setting mine rides amazing.

 

I fixed it. I flipped the spring seat and it rides a whole lot better. I’m on the 3rd notch with stock springs

 

Awesome. I'm happy that you have it's fixed. It should ride the same no matter what setting it's on. I would do the 4th and put an inch block in the rear. Almost level to a very sligts rake. But that's just me.

that image is probably on 2nd gen which is what the 610 was built for on the 3rd gen they sit on the stop and lift it up but they have 612 I believe that is for the 3rd gen that I put on mine and have a finger width with no weight

 

Can you achieve 3" or close of lift with the 5100s? it seems like some people get it and some (most)people don't.

 

2” max unless you use 2nd gen taco 5100’s then you might get 2.5”

 

I should be able to do 5100's up front and 1" block in the rear with stock rear shocks, correct?

 

You can get about 2.5” with 888 spring, then add a 1/4” spacer which gives an additional half inch of lift. Should hit 3” that’s what I’ll be doing.
