Thanks! Also with the current fix, are you covered officially under the recall? If not, you might ask for an extended warranty on the diff at least?

Hopefully you don't need to go there after this appempt. Other than out-of-balance wheels, fluid leaks are at the top of my list of things that I just can't tolerate. My nickname a while back was Mr Leakered because I seemed to get hit with more leaks than normal. Although lately, it has been worse with failed bearings. Many looooong stories. . . That's most of the reason that I jumped into a Taco. I needed to stop fixing shit and just ride / drive.

My diff has a couple small weep spots that I will point out to the dealer for the 10k service. More for documenting and monitoring than tearing into for now.

Looks like they are trying to do something for you. Maybe this will end your problem.

They still say no recall for me. I will inquire with corporate about the ext warranty on Thursday when they call back for sure. Sorry you have weeping too. Hopefully they will give it a good check out at least.

It is really minor at this point. Much less than your last couple pics. Getting it documented is the only goal at this point. Even though, the bumper-to-bumper warranty is a bit short, the power train warranty is really good.

Well documenting is a very good idea. My biggest concern is that when I had the initial leak that I was running super low on fluid and could have done damage to the rear end that the dealer wouldn’t tell me about.

That was my biggest reason for pushing to have corporate involved this time. I wanted them to know in the event that there is something in the future that could pop up.

I can’t be sure no mechanical damage happened the first time, but since it’s back, they can fully document the problem as a whole not just a one time thing.

With it being so new, the ring flinging the fluid around, and the fluid being swapped with the fix, I would not think that the diff suffered at all. The main reason for the large quantity of fluid is for heat when towing at max gross. If you weren't under high loads like that, I would not worry at all.

I’m thinking because of the not so invasiveness of the issue and the fact it’s a warranty repair, it may not be much of an issue. Remember thousands and thousands of Tacoma’s were under recall for this. So it’s a known manufacturing issue as sucky as it is to deal with.

I haven’t towed with it until just a few moths ago, so that is a good thing. I really hope it didn’t mess with the diff integrity.

Went from 3rd Gen Taco to 3GT4R to 2nd Gen Taco and finally a V8 4GT4R.
@Grossomotto AAAAAND another one. OP, do you have the stock diff breather? From what I keep hearing the diff breather may get clogged somehow and is unable to release pressure.

The lemon law should definitely be kept for last resort when all other options fail. But keep an eye on your eligibility date. I'm in washington, so the laws are prolly a bit different, but my family has gone down that road twice. The first was a family car that had 3 engines in 18 months. Soon as lemon law was mentioned GM bought the car back (most likely so it wouldn't have to be labeled as a lemon). The second was my sister's Ford Raptor. She went through the Attorney General's office and started the process and it ended up being at 29 days out of service, not the 30 required so she was out of luck. About a week later the truck went in again for 6 days. She reopened the lemon law case with the AG and Ford didn't fight. She got a 2 year newer truck for an additional $5k out of pocket, but it took a LONG time from start to finish. I'm talking months of sending certified letters, waiting for responses, etc, and then the extra time of just finding a replacement truck that met her criteria. Luckily her new Raptor has been great, not needing a new drive-shaft, transmission rebuild, seat-belt pretensioners, audio controls, and a new motor before 9500 miles like her first.

Wow that sucks to have 3 engines damn! Yeah, I don’t even want it to be considered a lemon really. I just wanted to know my rights in the even that this persists.

Hopefully I never have to worry about this again after this go round.

I tried to name it thaw way I did initially so The title it wouldn’t imply I am trying to call it a lemon. I just wanted people to help me know if it’s wven categorized as such. Oh well.

Hopefully people don’t start thinking I’m accusing Toyota. I never said that. I’m not trying to cause more drama.

That’s why I said “I Need Some Important Advice”

You should be able to re-edit the title.

I didn't feel you were going down that road, just asking good questions.

I changed the title back. I’m not trying to start a bunch of fighting on here. Plenty of threads get locked for craziness and I’m not into that.
