    Mostly stuff I built.
Pretty common on factory procedures. Allows more air flow over the radiator. I have worked as a Tech for Toyota, GM and Dodge. All of them have opening the hood as SOP in a lot of operations to prevent over heating.

So my dealer did update my ecu without putting it in the work order. Got the carista thing off Amazon and obd fusion and got the added version to see which ecu program was loaded. Also, finally turn off the damn chime. Minus more linear gears I didn't notice a whole lot of change, don't get me wrong it's much better than before but not that big of a deal.. I would love to get a much lower power band... maybe one day boost will happen

Oh man, this is exciting. The 3500 rpm is my only real complaint of this truck. Well, shitty MPG's too... but I was fully aware of that when buying!

    I didn't open the hood.

It tells you what position to put the key in and then verifies it.
It tells you what voltage the battery must be above and then verifies it.
It tells you the hood needs to be open but doesn't indicate that it actually cares. So I didn't either.

I don't even remember reading that the hood should be open...lol. Needless to say mine was closed the whole time.

Waiting for your follow up to this observation. Any other drivers with the update that can verify this?

Due to the awesome TW community and an even more awesome member, @csmacomber, I got my -10 ecu updated to -13... I can now say I know why there was such a difference in opinion about these trucks... it is clear those of us who got the early 2016's with the -10 ECUs had ALL the driveability problems while others had some of these issues mitigated or smoothed over.

I have only driven my truck 4.5 miles and already I can feel a HUGE improvement in linear throttle/power delivery. The truck scoots along pretty well and it revs a lot faster and more smoothly all the way up to redline (which I think has been bumped by the new update it used to hit the limiter hard at 6k, and I was able to smoothly take it and shift at 6k without it bouncing. NOTE: this is not an everyday occurrence, before someone flips out on me... but it was for testing purposes... ;) ) The REV hand fiasco is pretty much gone, especially at <3500 RPMS. If I push the clutch, the RPMS drop like they should. At around >5k I noticed a slight hang but nothing like it used to be (could just be the rotational mass of the flywheel still spinning as well) Shifts happen smoothly, and the RPMS don't tank off take off anymore. The truck pulls very well through all gears, even in 6th at lower than normal speeds (45mph ish) 2nd and 3rd are pretty fun gears now... I was even able to take off from a rolling start in 2nd- something that before on -10 I wasn't able to do. The ultimate test was driving around my neighborhood/parking lots with speed bumps. 10 MPH is too fast for 1st comfortably and before the update 2nd would lug, chug and buck. If I hit a speed bump with the -10 in 2nd gear the truck would bounce, buck and jerk like crazy. Now it comfortably rolls over them at 7mph with literally no issues.

I also noticed that backing up into my parking space goes a lot better now. Usually I would have to have some fancy foot work on the clutch and gas/brake to back up the grade and the truck would shake and the engine would make some crazy sounds and shutter... it's done this for 3 years!. Now it just backs right in... knife through butter.

I will update later when I have more miles and more observations... but this is already a huge win for only 4.5 miles of driving!

Would appreciate a member making a before and after video of them driving their truck around.

I'm not sure how much a video will capture, I would definitely say if one were to do this, find an early 2016 truck with -10 on it, we.. ahem... they ;) seem to have to most drastic changes. It's largely in the feel and performance of the truck. The video might catch some of the stumbles or bucks pre-update and the RPM dive but your hands on feel in the truck is the real test.

We had our suspicions that my truck was B10... today proved it lol.

I don't know that it would capture the difference either. My wife didn't even know I had changed anything on the truck, mostly because I had learned to drive with the quarks it had. The difference for me was all in how I drove it, and I was coming from -12, not -10. Sounds like the -10 update is even more drastic.

You basically described all the reasons I tuned my truck. That was over a year ago.

Now I know that I'm not crazy or overly critical of the truck... it legitimately had issues. Now I don't have to trade it in on something else! haha.

Really curious to see how it does as time goes on and I get more miles... might have to take the dog for a spin later, or perhaps drive to get coffee... in the next town over!
