Personally I’m a huge museum guy, there’s so much cool shit to see in this nation and it’s so often overlooked. I get super nerdy about this, you can see and often touch hugely historically significant things. Air and space museums are a particular fave. I’ve seen the Enola Gay, and Bockscar in person. Stood under SR-71s and seen the last remaining air frames of German WWII prototypes. Seen seaplanes that survived Pearl Harbor and actual wild weasel aircraft... the list goes on and that’s just at the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy and the NMUSAF in Dayton Ohio.
Automotive wise, the Lane motor museum in Tennessee is so damn cool and has all sorts of quirky cars. Often times these places are just tucked away in areas you would never guess and you can be one of the few people there any given day.

Dunno if that floats your boat, but any road trip isn’t complete in my mind without finding something like that to see along the way.

Nevada State High point Boundary Peak followed by Death Valley, Mt Whitney, Kings Canyon Sequioa, Yosemite, and Devils Postpile National parks. Then on to Tahoe. Then up to Shasta and to Mt Hood, followed by Rainer. Return home Idaho down to Utah to knock off Kings peak. Back through my old stomping grounds in Wyoming. Down to Colorado to knock off a couple 14'ers. Last would be Wheeler peak in NM then home.

Oh and visit some solid craft beer breweries along the way.

I definitely like the idea of seeing the historical stuff. I agree, there is a ton out there to see. I have been working since I was 16, so I have never really had the chance to see that sort of thing. So I think I would enjoy seeing all of that. I definitely want to check out the Barber Vintage Motorsports Museum. That would be near the top of my list.

I've been to that museum in Dayton, very cool stuff there!

FYI, Pima Air and Space in Tucson has an SR71, definitely worth checking out if you havent been before.

-Alaska and head across Canada before coming back.

    -National Forest hoping

-Go North to Yellowstone, head East for Mount Rushmore, then hit the East coast (New York, D.C.) and head South. Turn West at Memphis and head back across the middle. You can load the truck on an Amtrak and head South along the East Coast on rails (haven't done it, but did look into it once, fuel savings would pay for it). If you do the train, get of in Florida, touch the tip, before heading back to Memphis and West.

I am digging this idea. I have never been on a train. Do you think they allow dogs on the train? I am also curious if it would be an issue to cross the border into Canada with a dog. I am sure there has to be some requirement.
