I don't think you need to worry. I bet they'll take care of you. Just sucks that it is taking multiple attempts.

The rear diff breather I changed to the ARB and relocated higher up in the bed storage compartment.

My original definitely built up pressure and there’s been others that have experienced this.

But , after watching all of the members go through the diff seaping for over a year, I’m sure it has to do with the actual manufactured diff and where the gasket seals it. Like the OP, many others have had the gasket replaced and retorqued and it still leaked/seaped.

Just wanted to share my experience with my 17 Sport. I have under 13k on truck currently. I had bolts retorqued about 6 months ago due to recall. I have been watching her rear closely. No pun intended!
I noticed weeping and brought truck in today. A field rep is coming in a couple of weeks to document and make a decision. Patiently waiting.

Why do some bolts seem to have more thread showing than others?

So a lot of people are reporting sticky breather valves so I wonder if the dif is pressurizing and forcing oil out.

In this case would a diff breather kit and a 2 way valve remedy this?

I had my diff seep oil prior to installing my diff breather. Been a few months and a handful of wheeling trips and it never came back...hoping to keep it that way.

Best of luck my bro. My dealer just called to let me know that they are gonna replace the whole gasket again and I will have Bullet back on Thursday. I had already talked to corporate earlier though and they told me ahead of time.

Hopefully they will fix you up to. It’s just silly for such a known problem. This is just a waste of time and manpower to keep fixing these things. They should’ve been good from the get go.

I may look into this since it seems pretty easy to change and or relocate. Just needless work when this truck shouldn’t be doing this stuff. I understand things happen, but I think trucks of all types mall crawling, wheeling, commuters, etc. have dealt with this issue. Just so many cases under the recall, not to include people like me who aren’t even part of the recall trucks.

Agree. If it is obviously happening to your truck then they should honor the flaw in the design and fix it, especially if still under warranty. I put mine on for water crossings but if it remedies this situation then boom. Two birds, one stone.

Actually this could be the cause. Defective studs (strecthing) losing specified torque.

Sorry for wiseass remark. It was more of an illusion because of the picture angle. Either way this is an issue which needs resolving for many owners.

This was my theory I came up with over six months ago. Not sure if it’s an issue, but I did the ARB breather relocation which is open both ways.

You may be into something that is a contributor. Anyone that has a diff leak, ask the dealer to check to see if the breather is clogged.

There is no fix, I have had my truck to the dealer 4 times in the last year. Now with 58k miles on the truck it is now leaking again! It's not the mating surface, it's not the gasket... it's the tensile strength of the bolts. Toyota is not going to change their supplier of their fasteners, so we are out of luck. Toyota will on the other hand fix your truck every time you bring it back leaking. Under warranty and good will, I have had 4 new gaskets and bolts still leaks. Low range has a kit that eliminates the studs all together with stronger bolts. I'm going too shoot them and email and see what they can come up with for these new trucks.

Dang dude. That blows. Sorry you gotta keep dealing with that.

Let us know what they say. If they think it will stop this madness.

It says for 2005+ 2nd Gens, would be nice if they had an aftermarket alternative to the diff gasket and studs for the 3rd Gen.

I’m wondering how this works, do you have to take your current studs out?

Yes remove the studs, tighten the allen bolt into the housing from the inside out. Not a simple bolt change.
