Sidewall looks similar to KO2 now with scalloped shoulder lugs. I think the at3 4s is only available in SL rating. But they have I believe xl and xlt variants of the at3 now with even more aggressive sidewalls available in C and E load.

 

I had the previous version of these on my Gen 2 and they were awesome for a good price.

 

They make a load rating called XL - extra load also that might be a good solution for you.

 

yeah I like how the sidewall has a little bit of meat on them now. I had the ATP version and liked them except the sidewall still looked like a highway tire. Same thing with the older AT3s.

The XLs look great but I don't need that E load on my 4runner

 

I'll look into that, thanks. Ideally, I'd like to be slightly better than an SL tire, but not if it's going to be a lot of added weight.

 

These are a pretty good option imo. Standard load, but decent looking sidewall and the very similar mix between aggressive and highway tread.

 

The XL is not an E-rated tire. It's similar to a C-rated LT tire, maybe a little softer.

Not every tire manufacturer produces an XL tire. Generally, for something like the Tacoma, your options will be,in order of soft to firm, a P-rated tire, Standard Load (SL), Xtra Load (XL), LT C, D and E rated. Anything stiffer than E should never be stuffed under a Tacoma.

 

after watching one of the lastest tacomaholic videos, i went and checked my ebrake cables.......sure enough my ebrake cables are being rubbed, funny thing is it's being rubbed by the factory mount/holder/guide thing. So i bought some dishwasher 7/8" hose to hopfully cover up those sharp edges, we will see how it goes tonight.

 

Wasted my entire lunch break waiting for my CT emissions to be done... there was only one guy at the shop that I went to that did it, and he was on lunch break for another half hour by the time I got there, so when he came back, took the truck in, did what he had to (which literally only took 10 minutes) and I was out of there, I was already a few minutes late getting back to work.

I get people not wanting E rated tires on their cars. But I tow a fair amount (not at the limits tho) and I also used to pop tires a lot. I haven't since I switched to e-rated. Now, maybe it was just luck of the draw, but I still hit sharp stuff, or curbs and other things but I don't worry about it anymore. I'm used to them and put them on the taco almost right away, so I don't even know if I'm missing any speed from the extra weight or how soft it could be, TBH I think the suspension is way to soft anyways, and the extra stiffness from the tires only helps.

 

I'm down to 3 days until teachers come back, 4 for the kids, a mile long list of things I still need to do. Already spent last Saturday and a few hours Sunday here...I see a few more late nights coming.
