Just got back from the Apple Store. Damnnnnn....

    MacBook Pro it is.

Damage and support is included in AppleCare. But how do I insure against theft? I have visions of someone just casually grabbing this thing while she’s eating lunch.

Found out that iCloud doesn’t do full backup of Macs, so I’ll need an external backup drive so I’ll pick up an inexpensive one as well. I’ll go with the 1TB Apple product since it’s plug and play. I want it to be the least burdensome for her to do backups. If it’s a PITA, then the likelihood of her doing regular backups is gonna be low. I’ll also setup up our home WiFi backup drive to back up her laptop as well when she comes to visit. Like you said, list data is bad data and it really sucks.

Should I pay the $200 extra for the newest generation 2.9 GHz 6-core Intel i9 processor over the intel i7 processor? Plus there’s a two week back order date for the i9.

    Thanks for the help.

Depending who you have for insurance, they can take care of that. I have USAA and they insure my guns and my wifes rings. Not positive if that's against theft though.

Nice. Didn’t know that they do that.

Just sent an email to my insurance agent. :fingerscrossed:

I believe its only about home theft. I made a claim with USAA when my generator, lawn mower, and other assorted crap were stolen out of my shed while I was underway. They paid right up.

Yeah that one. I think I'll finally get off the shift work, and I'll have a 96 that weekend. I'll just drop an out of area chit and go down there (up there?). I know no details on it.

EDIT: Nevermind, forgot I had something going on on the 1st. I'll be heading down to Richmond area to TW express that soft topper

Just my uneducated 2¢, unless your daughter is planning on doing some 4K video editing or running similarly intensive software, i7 (or even i5) will be quite capable for most of the things out there.

Very cool Lloyd! I like your style! Think it, see it, get it! I wish I had that spontaneity gene!

Ask your insurance agent about personal property insurance for things like camera, laptops, etc. For example, State Farm is $60 a year for $1k no questions asked. I have it.

There are locking devices with cables etc but I'm thinking something like that would not lead to winning any popularity contests. There are super small tracking devices but.......how about a built in system? Apparently Mac has it already!

    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204756

I would enable this feature immediately! I use a similar feature on our phones. Pro Tip - on phones it can be used to locate the person carrying the phone should they become lost. Mine will utilize the camera and mic to send photos and audio to the receiving device.

Hmmmm, wonder why it doesn't do full backups? Weird. But yea, the more trouble it is the less likely it will get done. Make it simple for her as possible. She's already going to be a little overwhelmed being in a new place without you guys. Definitely SSD for this. It offers complete shock protection.

I'm the worst person to ask about buying more of anything. But more processing speed is key to a less frustrating computing experience. Not to mention, you don't want that to be a limitation at a time when she's preparing for her future. For me, at work, a millisecond delay is too much. We have some of the fastest network connections money can buy and there are times I want to throw the damn laptop out the window.

    Check out this site:

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i9-8950HK+@+2.90GHz&id=3246

That i9 might be worth the wait. I can get confirmation on this tomorrow for you but the stats look good to me. Money doesn't grow on trees I know but processor speed is the last place you want to skimp. Next is the graphics abilities.

Hey man your very welcome! I'll get confirmation on all of this though tomorrow. Shoot me the model number though so we can nail it down.

    Great job Dad!

Sheesh, that sounds frustrating. Is there anything you can do to get a good nights sleep? Was it caused from firefighting?

Longer answer yes but getting kicked by a student after other injury is the biggest factor.
