I just wanted to warn anyone who is rigging any kind of steps for their Tacoma to be careful (present and future). I live on a military base and from just a week of being on leave was long enough to have them stolen. It was painful to realize, but it can happen. I have heard "red loctite" can prevent/make it difficult for anyone after this is applied to bolts be difficult to take off. Just wanted to prepare anyone else for this.

That sucks. Scan the local craigslist and see if they pop up. Which base?

Stationed on Coronado Island, CA. Could be anywhere in San Diego or even Mexico at this point.

So it was jacked on base?

I totally feel you on this. My ammo cans with my compressor, deflators, hi lift jack adapter and jump starter was taken. I'm now finishing installing my front and rear dash cam to at least record them so they can get reported later.

I heard people lost their tailgates plenty. Never heard of side steps get stolen. I guess if anyone cares enough they can swap out the bolts for wheel lugs and throw those locks on them.

That sucks. When I was at Ft Bragg NC, someone busted out the window of my '57 and got into the trunk to steal a bunch of parts. Car was parked right out infront of the CQ desk, but they "didnt hear or see anything". Pretty sure I know who did it too, he moved up to LM the next day.

that sucks man, but even here on FT Campbell I keep all my stuff locked up. Kind of hard to do that with steps though.

I would have done that but didn't know if I would eventually swap out my steps.

Exactly what I was thinking. I was not expecting that to happen at all. None of the cameras around my barracks found the person who took it in view.

Did you report it to base police? They might be able to detect a pattern if there are several. Also, someone you know is likely involved, either as the thief or accomplice that knew you’d be gone.

I did report it to base police. They did as much as that could they said which was getting surveillance footage which wasn't showing my truck's tube steps being taken off so they couldn't go further into prosecuting anyone. However, before I got this truck I heard of this happening to someone else before on this base with the same steps. Just didn't think it would happen to me.

That's truly a shame being on base.

Thanks for the compliment. I appreciate that.
