Initial impressions after 200 kms of driving: 8.5 outta 10
    • Off-Idle and low speed throttle response -- much improved
    • Feeling that gas pedal is dead and lots of pressure needed to depress it -- better
    • AT shift points smoother (particularly downshifts) -- much improved
    • Cruise control btwn 100 to 120 kms (cdn) -- better
    • Still downshifts way to easily (slight grade or breeze) but does it more naturally and returns to 6th way sooner after upshift
    • Improved fuel economy (.2 L/100)
I will report again after 1000 kms !

So far I'd say GET ER DONE!

My dealer in Ventura just ran the latest updates this past Saturday 8-18-18, both the motor and transmission had updates available. They ran my updates based on TSB 0058-18. Both TSB 0058-18 and TSB 0062-18 result in the same updates being applied. Basically, if they deem the truck experiencing any behavior in either TSB, they look for and run any updates reported as available via Techstream. They literally showed me the list of all items that could be updated. My guess is when they look for updates based on a TSB, likely they will update any that have an update available. I will see if they will send me an electronic copy to post more info.

As for my experience post updates..I went and drove around for about 30 minutes Saturday night and tried to hit all the areas where I remembered experiencing the delay then aggressive surge when stepping hard on the accelerator. I definitely want to continue driving under normal conditions so I’m not consciously testing, but thus far the update does seem to have corrected the issue. What I experienced in my test was that when I really step on it from a coasting speed, there is still a slight delay and I still hear the engine rev up (which is totally fine), however, as I anticipate the jolt, it seems to kick in much smoother and distribute the power more evenly which has thus far appeared to remove the jolt effect.

As I have driven more over the last couple days, while I still think the transmission occasionally seems a little confused, it seems to be much less so, and my driving experience has started to improve without me being frustrated or anticipating being frustrated. I will feel more certain the update is a proper adjustment/correction when the new behavior is consistent to the point that I no longer think about it when I go to drive the truck, but again, already feeling better.

These dealers who arent applying this to your trucks when you ask are just lazy IMO. When you plug a truck into Techstream, you hit Connect To Vehicle and then Health Check. The health check runs on all control units in the truck. One of the first things you see after the health check is done is if there is a update available for ECU and TCU. They become clickable links that they just merely have to click on. Its a sad state at many dealers who refuse this simple, 5-10 minute service. I updated about 8-10 3rd gens this past sunday in about 1.5 hours at a local Cars N Coffee meet up. 2 folks had 04b0000 ecu tune, the very first one, and one of those guys was told by his dealer that they had his truck up to date... which was complete BS.

Just trying to help out other enthusiasts! It’s worh it, imo, to buy a tactrix openport2.0 obdii device and cable to do these updates and also things like changing tpms after tire rotations. The other plus side is that you can get an OVtune and apply it with the same cable. That’s the reason I have this tactrix device at all is that I bought the tune from OVtune when it first dropped.

Maybe there is someone in your area who had the OVtune and could have a mod day of sorts.

It's kinda funny how much time the dealers are wasting and NOT doing this update. It's literally taking them longer to deny the update than it would if they just did it without questioning. As you know, it takes like 5-7 minutes to update. I'd say, to everyone who is having issues with the dealer denying them, just get a cable and do it yourself. You'll be happy you did.

Not to mention that the next time you (or a family member) are looking at buying a new vehicle, what is the chance you'll buy it there? It's almost as though they don't care about their reputation.

Where do you get the software? I am sure there are people in my area with the tune. I would hope. Ultimately, I will but that is at least a year away.

I had the update and like all, it is dramatically different and better. My friend called to have his done at another dealer and was told ok no problem. However, they just wanted him to know that they are getting mixed reviews, many say it is great but many say it was better before. I cannot understand how anyone would like it before better, that makes no sense. Nor does it make sense the dealer would make that up if they are willing to do the flash. Is there anyone here that really liked it better before or anyone that can even understand what could have been better before. Makes no sense

Where in Utah did you get it done? I was going to go to Tony Divino or Toyota Bountiful

    Meh.

I think if you drive a grandma it makes less of a difference.I tend to drive like grandma for the mpg and mine drove great before the TSB.To me it does drive better the more aggressive you drive now.Win,win for me.Cant always drive like grandma, sometimes you got to moooove along.

I just want a better pedal towing and the ability to use cruise. Also being able to run regular gas would be nice if I'm honest.

That's an old update. The TSB listed in the thread is the newest one.

T-SB# does not equal software ID number. He more than likely received the newest cal software. Only the most recently published software version will be flashed to the controller. Once a new calibration exists, the previous generations are omitted.

But with the ridiculous amount of push back from the stealerships service people, there's a very good chance his ECU was updated to B300, not the new B400. Only one way to find out.

Agreed, the only way to know for sure is to check the ECU calibration number. B300 was the most recent software version when 77 was released. Since then, that version has been replaced with the current version that we are all getting flashed. When connecting tech-stream, only the most recent version of the controller calibration is able to be flashed. Any older versions are not able to be selected.
