Any 3rd gen owners here know how to disable the hill holder feature? Its the thing where if you are on a slope like your driveway and let your foot off the brake the truck holds itself for a couple seconds then rolls backwards. It drives me nuts. I always want my truck to roll freely when i take my foot off the brake just like every other MT I have owned in the last 15 years! I asked the dealer if they could do something about it a few months back and they would't for "liability" reasons.

Trade for an Off Road or Pro, only the Sport and SR have it and the SR Manual is no more.

Can't. I need an MTLB. Only way to get that in USA is a Sport.

I think it is disabled in Auto LSD mode only.

I wasn't thrilled about it initially, but I'm guessing that it saves about 1/3 the life of the clutch no matter how well a person can drive an MT.

I tried the ALSD mode and it still did it Also I don't care about clutch life. The whole reason I drive an MT is cause I don't want the car thinking for me.

I went the easy way suggesting an OR or Pro, not really sure how you could disable that system.

When do you find it a pain? My wife loves it because she always had a fear of the truck rolling back on an incline into a vehicle while stuck in traffic.

Hello there, new to TW. I also like manuals. I had a manual Wrangler before my Taco. I've got a 2010 5spd PreRunner.

Well you do realize it only holds for about 2 seconds right? Be patient.

That's actually one of the features I'd love to have on my 2nd gen. It used to drive me bonkers on my last car, but it grew on me and I really wish the Taco had it.

It's that hard to disable? I figured there has to be an inclinometer or something that I could remove. I see no reason why my truck needs to sense inclines.

Always. My wife and I both hate it. Her 2016 MT Forester also does it and we both hate it too. We've both been driving MT for over 15 years and never had a problem yet with a car "helping" us.

It has nothing to do with being patient. It has everything to do with electronic nannies, driver assists, and the car thinking for me. When i want to roll I take my foot off the brake. If i dont i leave it on. How would people feel if every time they stepped on the gas the truck waited 2 seconds then applied your throttle input?

Based on the responses here I think I'll try posting this question to the general 3rd forum and hope for a solution. I have not been able to find anything conclusive on TW or other internet sources. I am actually surprised I am in the minority here with the other MT drivers.

    Mostly stuff I built.
The only way I know of for sure to disable the hill start assist without fail is to pull the ABS fuse.

Probably should cut the seat belts out the truck too, right? And the airbags... stupid safety features trying to "help" us.

If you want the thing to roll free from a driveway, don't use the foot brake. Or better yet fix the bad habit you have of allowing the vehicle to roll with the clutch in. Put it in reverse and go.

You better start getting use to all the nannies, they're not going away anytime soon. All manufactures are using them and more are coming. Its been my observation that most of the older drivers have issue with all the "nannies".

come on man, that's just silly. An airbag does not actively interfere with my daily driving and neither do seat belts. By that logic we should all wrap ourselves in bubble wrap and drive AT trucks because they are "safer". Or better yet not drive at all and use self driving cars or take the bus.

As a fellow MT driver I'm sure you can appreciate that there are times where coasting is desirable and times when gassing it is desirable. The whole point of the MT is the freedom to choose how and when I make my car move.

lmao, Is it bad that I'm only 29?

Disagree. "Coasting" is considered dangerous because you are not in complete control of the vehicle. You need to be in gear. The Kansas state driving exam will actually fail you if you coast more than the length of the vehicle.

That's neither here nor there. If you don't touch the brake pedal, the hill assist wont activate.

    o_O

    Okay then.

You're young enough to change your habits then.

on the topics of age, I'm only 26 and I hate the electronic nanny BS. To the point where I am not trading up to a 18 because of the collision sensors BS.

I actually want my bronco back... simple Fuel Injection, throttle cable and ABS brakes that worked when they wanted to! And mmmmm that wing window!

You’re not alone man. I hate the hill assist braking. I want a basic manual transmission experience because I enjoy the “challenge” of driving a stick shift. I don’t want it dumbed down. If I wanted an easy breezy drive I’d buy a Prius or just Uber my way through life!
