    Meh...

When I was in the service I spent my money on travel. Rather than buy a bunch of crap I took leave and traveled the world. I'm glad I did. I wasn't planning on staying in. I was a grunt and had zero interest in humping a pack for 20. Had zero interest in making a career out of it. I'm still a federal employee, just not for the DoD lol.

Ultimately people can do whatever they want. If owning a really nice truck is your thing then go for it. Personally, I hate having a huge car payment. I'm paying mine off as fast as possible. Back before I became a single dad, my ex wife and I owned a house, cars, motorcycles, etc. and all our shit was paid for. We had very little debt. That's a kind of freedom that my 21yo self had no idea existed. I could take a few days off and make a long weekend out of it and go do track days because I had disposable income for days. That's because I wasn't roped into a bunch of payments.

Now that I'm the sole breadwinner for my 8yo son and my ex wife is off the grid it's tight at times. I'm definitely not in the same financial shape I once was now that I'm coughing up nearly a grand a month for child care in addition to my house payment and car expense and all that. Situations can change. Plan accordingly. Don't over-leverage yourself or you can dig yourself into a hole that'll bury you.

Ask them "if you have so many buyers lined up for it, how come I'm the only one here talking to you about buying it?"

If that's a double cab long bed 4x4 that's pretty much the price you're gonna pay. Even a short bed 4x4 TRD OR doublecab might get up there depending on the package. You can pit some nearby dealers against eachother and see who comes out on top.

21 year old military kid can afford to drop 50k on transportation.....but we have to give them discounts everywhere?

Maybe they can afford it because of that military discount they get everywhere on everything they buy.

I think "afford" is open to interpretation. The military does pay poorly in general. All necessities being provided allows them to spend a lot on one thing if they want. A lot end up spending it on expensive cars. Dealers know they have a guaranteed paycheck and they prey on the naive.

Meh... It's nice that the 99% of people who don't ever serve in the military do something nice for the 1% who are out there risking their butts for the rest of us.

That’s exactly why I joined the army, and put my life at risk. So I could get 10% off at Lowe’s and Home Depot!

I work for a Toyota dealership and we sell them at MSRP, but I’ve heard of plenty dealers in my area selling them for a few thousand above MSRP. A dealer is free to sell their vehicles for any price they want, just like your free to except that price or walk away. I personally say walk alway and find a dealer that will sell it for MSRP.

If I can find a cavalry Blue pro in so cal for MSRP, you can too in any other state. I don’t think over msrp is reasonable. Msrp IS reasonablenon a limited production vehicle though. I see cavalry pro sitting on lots all the time. They are rare, but aren’t unicorns.

You’d be surprised. Some buy much more expensive cars than 45k

    This ^^ x2

There’s a lot of factors. I just finished up 8 years on active duty and I’ve had soldiers driving brand new loaded f150s, brand new chargers and even one that had a Shelby mustang brand new. Some think it’s justifiable to come home from deployment and blow their money on expensive cars and take on a $1000 monthly payment. But these soldiers are typically junior soldiers that have no kids no spouse no bills other than a car and phone. And they decide that because they get 1700$ a month they can afford it.

According to regs as a leader you’re supposed to counsel a soldier prior to a large purchase like that but unfortunately I only had the opportunity to counsel one before making a stupid decision like that.

Yeah. Depends on how close to the beach you want to live and how big your lot is. Inland is less expensive but near the coast $$$
