They offered to upsell mine to me as an alarm, or just leave it installed not activated. I wonder if it’s upgradeable because most of the remote start kits are modular like that, can add alarm, remote start, cell connection, etc

But really, look it up- you may be able to get a fob yourself for it. But definitely rewire and mount it better than that.

Had something similar in a past truck...on the one I had, this part was removable and prevented it from starting when removed...the button on the bottom might be the release.

Has anybody removed theirs? Is it anything more complex than following the wires back and "unsplicing" them from the wire harness? I would like to remove this if possible.

@MunchTIME It looks like he pulled out a whole alarm system (aftermarket?). I have the same item screwed into the kick panel as in OP's picture. I traced it back and it appears to be spliced into the factory wire harness. I'm wondering if I can just "unsplice" it and cover any exposed wires with e-tape without affecting anything else. As pointed out by previous posters it appears this was something added by the dealer to use a "universal" key fob to access the vehicle. The odd thing is my truck was a special order so I don't understand why they would have added it.

Is there anything else component wise wired into it or is it just wires? I’ve got the same thing as OP too but the dealer told me it was an alarm I could use if I paid for the activation.

I didn't follow the harness it's spliced into back, but it was definitely a hack job on the splice. Judging by the crappy splice and mounting (two screws rammed into the kick panel) I assume this is an add by the dealer into the factory alarm. I just want to make sure if I pull it out I don't affect anything else. Judging from the lack of a response I guess I'll pull it and cross my fingers. Worst case condition I can always splice it back in.

You ever give this a shot? I just had an incident where one of the dealer's dogshit splices came apart, causing the truck not to start. I want to remove the junk and solder it completely back to how it was from the factory, if possible.

Go raise hell at the dealer, including them removing the device and replacing the panel they screwed into.

And congrats to Michael J Fox on the photos.
