Yup another oil thread

I'm getting ready to do my first oil change and am confused by the three

$52 0w20 oil Toyota/ exxon mobil Case of 6 Quarts Full Synthetic TGMO SN 0W-20 Oil

0w20 oil types for mobile 1.

There is: mobile one advanced fuel economy full synthetic 0w20

And there is: mobile one annual protection full synthetic 0w20

And there is: extended performance full synthetic 0w20 up to 15k (which is what I use on my other vehicle


....so my question is which should I run in my tacoma? The annual protection seems better but it's also $10-$15 more than the fuel economy stuff

I run the 1st one you posted. And change every 7500 on both the taco and wife's prius. Now if Walmart has the extended performance for the same price when I go to buy it I use that but still swap it between 7500 to 10k.

 

They are all recommended by Mobil 1. Their website has a vehicle selector and suggests which oil to use. Also, will tell you the difference between the types.

I would use the one I was already using to do the oil change. I'd keep the changes at 10K miles though.... at least until the warranty is done.

 

How many miles do you drive a year? Toyota recommends to change your oil every 10k or once a year. If you drive less than 10k a year then I would pick the cheapest of the 3.

 

Any of those Oils will work and don't forget to send for the $12 Rebate.

 

I see that Toyota has 10k miles for the oil interval. The light will still come on at 5k miles. Silly

 

That is a reminder for other services too, like the tire rotations.

 

Any will be fine as long as you change it every 10K miles. I wouldn't go much beyond that as the dirt holding capacity of our filter will come into play for longer than 10K intervals.

 

I say over thinking it, my truck has whatever toyota uses in under Toyota Care...

Currently at just over 4k, I know many will argue (some already have) about the 10k, and I get that is what Toyota recommends. Though I've resolved myself to continue with 5k changes (or close to it). I'm also likely not bringing my truck in for dealer service.. one too many horror stories of trucks with no oil, new scratches etc and I'm paranoid that with my luck it will be me.

Thanks for the website recommendation I didn't know that existed so I'll check what they recommend for our tacos and use that.

Yes it is, check out their website and you can even double up for a $24 Rebate.

 

Lol not only does Toyota recommend it, but so does every engineer who knows anything about oils, lubrication and heat transfer. Also, the oil manufacturers recommend even longer intervals! Come out of the 1970's man! A lot has changed in the past 50 years haha.

I generally agree with diy, but for the first couple of changes I let the dealer do it in case there are some initial quality issues so they can't try and pass the buck. They like to do it enough as is. That being said I haven't had to diy anything I wasn't replacing in 27k miles so far...
